Interesting question. If god is omnipotent and all-powerful, would he be so self-centered and egotistical (dare I say 'insecure') to want people to pray to him.
No- I think it's pretty clear that prayer/worship is something people do for themselves, not for god. And our spiritual leaders tell the masses that they must pray, because they know that rituals enhance people's lives- not because god (if there were a god) needs people to pray to him (or her, or it).
