The only atheists I know of are here in Y!Answers. From what I see of them, they do seem very cynical, and very angry. I guess if I thought I was nothing more than an accident who would be here for a few decades and then pass out of existence altogether, I'd be pretty mad about it, too. I can see how atheism would be pretty depressing.

I think there maybe some truth in that. It's due to many facts, firstly, the idea of having some supernatural entity that can listen to all your problems and be there for you (no matter how rediculous it sounds) is absent which puts all the pressure on you as a human alone. Secondly, if you are an atheist, especially if you belonged to some religion then became an atheist out of conviction then you must be seeing a bigger picture than many people do, this leads to you seeing many of the things people do or pursue as being silly and irrelevant, and since you're forced to live with what people do because you can't change it, that leads to depression. There's also the fact that people don't look at you as an equal once they know you're an atheist, and they start telling you how dumb you are and how it's so "logical" that there's a god. And the fact that sometimes the lines you drew for yourself start getting blurry....

Well, sadly, Christians can get as depressed as Atheist or anyone else. The thing is that we know better than to fall into any traps that Satan sets for us or fail any tests the Lord has made for us. Sometimes we lose sight of things because we are human, but we must learn to put everything in God's hands. He will work anything out for you. We tend to put our hands in stuff instead of letting God have full control. Every time I let God handle any rough situations, He worked it out every single time.
If you kill yourself, you will die in your sins and go to hell. If you think you are depressed now, it's much more depressing when your soul burns forever. You still have all five of your senses when you go to hell, including touch. You will never sleep because you hear screams of agony non-stop, the smell is horrendous and you will be tortured forever.
Please heed to my call and give your life to Jesus. All you have to do is believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you Shall be saved. Once you give your life to Him, you will never be the same. You will still have problems, but at least God has got you covered. The Lord loves you and so do I.

People who have trouble with having faith or believing in something outside themselves tend to view the world in a very pessimistic fashion.
Hope is a keyword. Hope is the belief that things do get better.

Good question. though i highly doubt it, i could see where your coming from. if Athiests dont believe in an existance of a supernatural being and they are here mearly as a bunch of conjoined atoms then their point on earth is extremely meaningless and it wouldnt honestly matter if they killed themselves or others being as morals would be nothing more then an idea made by a bunch of floating atoms that apparently can make decisions.

I would have no idea, but I would think that taking responsibility for yourself instead of leaving it to god (or blaming it on the devil) would be more draining on emotional resources. But that's a guess at best.

Most atheists I know have a more positive outlook on life than most religious people.

Maybe. Important question: What does that mean? What if atheists (who are LESS delusional) are on to some big, bad, truth?
