Hi
Can anybody recommend one good application for checking hard disk for bad sector?
My hard disk is Maxtor, does Maxtor company has any tool for bad sector?
Thanks for any idea.

If you're running windows, start in command mode then type chkdsk. This is Microsoft's own program for doing this.

Best way for checking ALL bad sectors is a system called Low-Level disk format. Notice that this will remove all your data and will take some time.This is the most powerful kind of format and is not of usual use.More info on how to do this can be found on this site.

click on mycomputer icon
then right click on the hard drive go to properties click on tools tab
then click on check now tab
tick the box automatically fix system errors
tick the box
scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
then click start
if the scan cant be done coz you have a pc firewall on some firewall's can stop the scan
so this is what you do
disable your internet put it off
then disable your fire wall and exit it from the system taskbar by the pc time
then start the scan again when that is done
restart your firewall and internet
