Could these possibly be people seeking a higher power?Or does their lack of a belief push them to try and disprove others' beliefs?Or are these people bored and just looking to try and get people riled up?Maybe attention seekers?Or is there an actual religion or spiritual system dealing with the lack of one?

I've always wondered that as well. You made some good points. Here are some more.

They are obviously not here for the "Relgion" since most claim that atheism is not a religion. They may be here for the "Spirituality" half, but they all contradict themselves on this matter. Some claim that they don't believe in God, but believe in spirituality, and then, justify there being on here to them being spiritual. Other claim that there is no such thing as a spirit or soul, and thus, spirituality is just a thought, emotion, or man-made experience. Still others claim that we don't have a spirit, but we do have a soul.

Another contradiction is found in this. Many of them have quoted on this site that everyone is entitled to believe what he wants. But then a little later, you will see question which is a direct attack on Christians. I find that they attack Christians more than any other religious group. Some justify this by saying, "Well they attack us." And yet another contradiction: many atheists say they are more loving than Christians, but here they are repaying evil for evil; obviously not love. Anyways, theists wouldn't ask atheists questions or attack their viewpoints if they weren't hanging out here.

The main thing is that they all claim that religion is false, stupid, ridiculous, and illogical, but they are all here participation in these "false, stupid, ridiculous, and illogical" religious debates.

Your points are much better, these were just a few more.

I asked a similar question. It seems that atheists are just as passionate about their belief. I guess I mistakenly thought they had no belief. However, I guess that is how you define belief. Agnostics do have a belief in a higher power. So, at least the Spirituality part applies to them also. It really applies to everyone since even those who do not believe in God have to deal with those who do. They are curious. Some feel Christianity is a threat to society.

Oh and most importantly, the section is not called Christianity. It is not called Born Againers. We as Chrisitans, need to remember that. This is an open forum to ANYONE interested in religion and spirituality.

You may be wondering the motiviation behind those intent on being insulting. Or those who ask good questions but only to trip up Christians. Well, don't we do that? Don't we pose questions or answers with an agenda? Most people are not insulting on either side. It is just that the ones who are talk so much they make a huge impression. lol. I am all for witnessing. But to the atheist we have an agenda. Remember we are not enemies. If you are a Christian you believe they are lost. If we believe that then we need to act accordingly.

There could be as many different reasons as their are atheists. It seems like skeptics enjoy ridiculing the beliefs of those who take religion seriously. They don't seem as interested in those who are more liberal. In some I think that speaks to a political, not necessarily religious motive. Christians are of course saying that atheists are foolish or ignorant when it comes to spiritual matters. Atheists are reasonably offended by this and attempt to defend themselves. Their is also a strong moral or lifestyle motive for skeptics. Christians are saying that the way atheists live in the moral realm is wrong. This of course will bring a unfriendly response from the atheists. So religion is attacking their core beliefs and lifestyle, so they respond in a negative manner. They have every reason and right too. I could only wish that they would allow themselves to be open-minded about religion, which they usually are not.

I can only speak for myself. I was never an atheist. I can not imagine what it is about spirituality and religion that brings them here. I was however and agnostic. I was seeking truth and I wanted to know about many religions because I didn't know where I belonged. I wanted to know the truth. I have found that now. I am still interested in the areas of Spirituality and Religion. It's just my "thing." I love to study about different religions and be able to answer questions on the Bible and the answers I have found in God for situations that use to baffle me. It took me a long time to find my faith and I like to pass it on. I don't go knocking on doors but I do like to share my experience , strength, and hope when I get the opportunity. I also need the experience of operating in love as far as possible with all men.

i'm non-affiliated with religion.i don't even classify myself as an atheist or agnostic but i am very spiritual♥

some people just like to debate/argue until they get the last word.if one is truly faithful and sure of their beliefs, then they wouldn't feel a need to prove to anyone anything, unless they were insecure and/or had a big ego.religious or non-religious,i think a lot of people on yahoo answers are here for the very reason of getting attention, good or bad, they expect to get some sort of reaction from people.

I am an atheist. I took comparative religions in college. I am interested in the subject. I am not here to tell anyone how or what they should believe in. I basically would just like to give my view on appropriate questions ( I never answer if they say christian only) and be left alone to have the beliefs I will. One only has to research any of our questions and answers to see what kind of person an individual is.

Open forum. I didnt see a sign on the wall saying "CATHOLICS ONLY."
Personallly, Im here to share knowledge that I have gained in my pursuits at finding the truth. Have I found it? Not yet - but I feel I am getting closer and closer....which beats blind allegiance to doctrine that is based upon lies and fraud, just for the convieneince of BELEIVING that you have the truth - when you are not even close.....

Are you aware that Church doctrine was initially based upon letters written by Jesus to another person, found by Eusubius, Bishop of Cesaria in ~300AD? Turns out, the letters were faked by Eusubius himself - the person Jesus was writing to had lived 100 years after the crucifiction! The Donation of Constatine - a document purportedly giving all power to the pope in the Roman church, used to consolidate papal power for 800 years - was a fake document.

How much else do you beleive that is lies, fake, fraudulent and man made??

Nontheists have viewpoints on religion, too. Many are negative, but not all. Many nontheists also have a strong sense of spirituality, though not all like using that term. Don't make the mistake of believing that, just because we don't believe as you do, we don't believe in anything. We have beliefs--many are just as passionate about theirs as you perhaps are about yours--but we don't understand those who feel comfortable with "blind faith" in religious dogmas that strike us as immoral or just plain silly. We need good reasons to accept things as true and morally valid and are not impressed merely by the fact that some ancient people believed something to be true.

I personally don't feel called here by a higher power. I simply enjoy swapping viewpoints with people of diverse backgrounds. It helps me understand my fellow humans a bit better.

No, I just click "answer" on the top and it lumps all the questions together like "Religion and Spirituality" with "Singles" or "Sports".

Most of your "Religious" questions are directed at all types of people so maybe that's why atheists or the people in the "grey area", such as myself, feel compelled to answer.

Maybe because people ask title questions like these:

Don't Atheists know they're going to hell?

Don't gays know they're going to hell?

Why don't people just accept the bible as the imposable truth???

all the non-believers will burn in hell!!! why don't you accept that the Holy Bible is the only Truth?

To all non-believers...?

Why is a section called Religion & Spirituality full of atheists and agnostics?

It seems all the religious radicals are the ones seeking attention.
