I have a Springfield XD .40 and it is the smoothest pistol I have ever fired. I have a lot of trigger time on Glock 19's and 23's, Beretta 92FS, Ruger P95, Sig's, Smith & Wesson's etc etc, 9mm to .45. Out of every one of them, none have handled as smooth as my XD .40. Yes it handles a lot like a Glock as far as trigger break. But IMO that's the only operational comparison. Sure cosmetically it looks similar, I just don't like they way I had to cant my wrist forward with the Glock. I could never get used to that. With my XD, presentation from the holster to target acquistion, it's dead on and a comfortable, natural wrist position. I've even had die hard Glock owners say the same thing when comparing Glocks to XD's. Don't get me wrong, Glock is a great firearm, I have nothing against them, but given the choice, I'll go with the XD everytime.

I don't own an XD-40, but I've shot them and am familiar with them. They're actually a Croatian firearm, origionally imported as the HS2000 (I believe). Basically, they tried to out-Glock the Glock and have done a darn good job of it. It's major difference (other than cosmetics) is that it's got a grip safety. Some people like this; some people don't. It's up to you. But all the good things you've heard about Glocks apply to the XD40 as well. It's basically the same striker fired pistol, meaning in the normal sense, there isn't a hammer. The firing pin is under pressure of a spring, waiting to be fully released. As with all polymer pistols, over time, the light rail may get messed up, due to the fact it's a polymer rail. From my understanding, Springfield has an excellent warranty service and can fix the pistol. Recoil is very easy to handle (for most people) since the .40 is hardly a dam-buster and even the concealed carry models are relatively hefty. Not that the weight is a problem. I'd say buy it, you'll enjoy it.

I have the XD9 I really like it. I've had only a problem with rusting. Sent in the slide and customer service was EXTREMELY efficient and helpful
