My cousin has a 10 year old. He hears things at school and on tv, she says. She says she is more concerned about him being overweight but she doesn't know how to approach him.
She says she thinks he knows some because he stays in the bathroom and his bedroom a lot longer than usual. She has told me that she knows he gets teased at school about his weight and other boys talk to him about sex.
What should she do?

The library has an animate truthful video out on why people and ow people mate. It gives a clear picture of all but in a tasteful manner. He has a right to know. Also he needs to get some exercise.....big boys do well at football, mabe he could sign up!!

Other boys do talk about sex, but at this age it is in a joking manner. Girls talk about it too. It is all normal.

About the bathroom thing....she should say nothing. That is his business as long as he has the door locked. That is normal as well.

He should have been talked to a long time ago. His weight issues need to be dealt with, but they shouldn't be an excuse to drop the ball on the rest of his education. Buy some books about 'growing up' and let him read them in his own time, making sure he knows they are available. Once you are pretty sure he's read them, have a little conversation about what he knows, wants to know, etc, making sure to fix any misconceptions he got from his friends. Make sure that even this early, he knows about contraception(condoms) and STD's. Let him know he's normal for masturbating, and that the kids at school are just as ignorant and inexperienced as he is. Do it now, before problems can arise.

There are many books available about sex. There are some that are geared to 10 year olds. If she does not have a male friend or relative, she will have to answer his questions. He needs to know about sex now.

I am sure she is busy since she is a single mom, but she needs to get him into some activities so that he does lose weight. This is for his health.

Good luck to your cousin and her son. Thank you for trying to help.

tell him. One day when he's not busy, just sit him down and tell him. Be sure to use all the appropriate terms, and tell him about the dangers of it. I've known ever since i was able to speak, and i've never had a problem. The earlier they know, the better. Btw, im not much older than ur cousins boy.

I would do it at 12, it is really important because teenagers are having sex and lower ages, i was 14 and in todays society that is not young

I'll say 10 years old so they can be aware of their emotional feelings, and puberty! Boys that dont know about puberty are going to end up being nasty, and confused!!
