Given that the majority of atheists don't believe in spirit:

Isn't it then true that most of you have nothing positve to offer to a discussion of spirituality. To play on the pun of spirits as alcohol, it's like trying to discuss beer-making in a room full of rabid teetotalers who not only don't drink beer, they don't even believe it exists.

Monty: You make the classic error of assuming that simply because I am not an atheist, I must be some sort of Fundamentalist. Of course I can offer positive contributions on the topic of thinking for oneself. Atheists don't have a monopoly on thought and often many atheists on this forum don't seem to think at all--they just have knee-jerk responses.

Adam T: I didn't say atheists are evil. I simply asked whether they have any positve contributions to make to the discussion. Look, A Tale of Two Cities is a fictional novel. But if in a discussion group, all you have to say about the novel is that it is fictional, you don't have much to say. And what little you do have to say is essentially negative.

Sure.
We are positive that people who believe in fairy tales are delusional.
We are in this section to save people from the delusional horror of religion. The only cure for this disease is knowledge.

Do you have anything nice to say about us. Just because you don't think something exists, does not mean you hate it. I think Santa clause is a nice guy. I don't believe he exists, but I can make a nice comment if I pretend he exists, and play along. So yes. I can say anything about spirituality. I know about it even though I don't think the spirit exists. This is probably not what you want to hear, as it takes away from your view on atheists being evil things.
Oh. Looking at the details, you are just restating the question. As I said, I appreciate a good myth. I don't have to believe to enjoy it. And like I said before, you can talk about things that are not real, without being nasty about it.

I like a lot of the Bible. Even thou I'm an evolutionist lately I've really been enjoying the creation story in the Bible. I don't take it literally, but I really enjoy the poetry of it.
I read the Bible sometimes on my train ride to and from work.
Regarding spirituality, I don't really know what that means I haven't read any books on it and most of my non Bible reading lately has been on political stuff and science stuff.
Heres another good thing about this topic, there are some Christian denominations that actually marry people of the same gender in America, isn't that wonderfuL!

It's not that they have nothing positive to offer the conversation so much as they have no context in which to offer it. If they are by definition non-spiritual, then they do have a perspective on the discussion, however unwelcome it may be to the spritual.
It does tend to be a hot-button issue and as such, it tends to elicit curt and hostile responses.

As an atheist, I don't believe in any god. That doesn't mean I don't believe in good or evil. Not as an incarnate force, of course, but as an action or intent in the minds of people.

I do not believe in the afterlife, soul, or spirits.
I am a rationalist.
Because you are christian, does that mean you have nothing positive to offer in a discussion of all thing rational?

Yes, you are completely right, and absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Can you offer anything positive about human's thinking for themselves, and believing in themselves (only)???
