No, but no doubt the hard of understanding will argue that some dogs are gay because they mount other male dogs. But mounting and humping behaviour in animals is not always sexual often it is a means of demonstrating dominance. The dog that allows itself to be mounted is signalling its submission, the mounting dog asserts its dominance.

LazlaHollyfield is wrong in claiming the converse is an accepted fact in Zoology, most experts take the view it is about dominance

OK, lets look more closely at what LazlaHollyfield is claiming; there is a book documenting homosexual behaviour but does not cite the ref. What is this homosexual behaviour, presumably mounting, so all this book documents is mounting which the author has rightly or wrongly interpreted as homosexual, this doesn't count as evidence since it is still an open question whether it is homosexual behaviour or a dominance display.

She then goes on to claim;"Unless "most experts" are here to discuss whether or not showing dominance can be a mating behaviour (it certainly can), I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree." Well, again this is just question begging, we already agree that animals may mount animals of the same species that is not the argument. But just because one animal mounts another that is not sufficient to show it is homosexual since it can perform that action merely to show that it is a dominant animal.

So in order to show that the animal was homosexual it would be necessary to demonstrate that the animal was performing that action for pleasure, reproduction or because they are genetically programmed to mate with animals of the same sex. It is extremely doubtful that an animal has the kind of conceptual reasoning ability to know that intercourse leads to reproduction so we can discount that possibility. Dogs mate in response to environmental signals, pheromones etc. not for pleasure, although that is not to say the experience is without pleasure. Could an animal be genetically programmed to be gay? Well it is perhaps conceivable that such a mutation might arise but a moments consideration will convince even the most rabid "gay-gene" theorist that such an idea is a non-starter. Since if there were a gay gene it would immediately be selected out, for the obvious reason that it couldn't be passed on.

there is no such thing as a gay dog. when a boy dog humps another boy is a show of dominance.

There is an entire HUGE book documenting homosexual behavior and apparent preference in most mammals. (I gave my copy away, and have forgotten the name.)

Some animals are, without doubt, geared toward same-sex mating. I can't believe that dogs would be any different. The percentages, of course, would be small.

It surprises me that all dog folks don't know this. Seriously, it's a well-known fact in zoology.

***EDIT***
Phoney is wrong in claiming that Lazla is wrong in claiming . . . S/he just disagrees with me. Unless "most experts" are here to discuss whether or not showing dominance can be a mating behavior (it certainly can), I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. But, of course, I am right.

No. Dogs are not attracted to each other because of their sparkling personalities or they think the other is cute. Mating is an instinctual urge driven to procreate and keep the species alive. Male/male or female/female mating would be unproductive so there is no urge for it. Mounting is not always sexual. Dogs who mount another dog of the same sex are doing to to control, not to mate.

canine hump each and each of the time. They hump human beings. They hump different canine, in spite of length or sex. They hump gadgets. it is continually play or expressing dominance. Humping isn't sexual.
