Have him evaluated by an orthopedist. Custom orthotics for his shoes might be a solution. Then again his back pain could be due to some postural problem, muscle imbalance, or a myriad of other causes (herniated disk for example).

Not the insoles that come with sneakers but the ones with the eisner effect. They might help. But if he was ever in an accident it could be something in neck or back that requires professional help. As far as 1 foot being longer than the other, it is extremely rare. But it is common for misalignment to make one leg appear longer than other. The above pros do not let you leave until both soles are lined up.

See this site for more on that:

i'm not exactly sure what you mean by "at a slant" but i'll assume that you mean it looks as if one leg is longer than the other. if one leg is in fact longer than the other then he might just need special shoes that account for that. another possibility is that he might have a muscle imbalance or a misalignment in his pelvic/hip area. just a guess. there's no way to really tell unless he has it checked out by a professional. if he's having back pain, i'd highly suggest it because whatever is causing the slant is affecting his posture significantly. it might start to affect the shoulders, neck, knees, ankles, etc. every part of the human body is interconnected.

There are special kind of shoes that he can wear; ask at the shoe store. And yes, good insoles should help some.

yeah, he can get custom made insoles at the podiatrist. it sounds like he needs to see a foot doctor...
