You have to be an adult - that means 18 or over to buy and drink alcohol* in pubs/bars etc, but you can legally drink in private at any age over 5.

*under 16 may consume alcohol bought by a parent or guardian
a restaurant etc with a meal and at the licensee's discretion

*16 and over may purchase beer, porter, cider, or perry with a meal in an eating area on licensed premises (In Scotland wine also)

Legal Drinking age is 18. Regardless of if you look your age or not if you are going to a bar or nightclub you will be asked for ID. The doorstaff by law have to make sure you have ID on you for safety/medical reasons. My last "works party" we went out on a pub/club crawl and a colleague aged 39 was refused entry for having no ID! Pubs might be easier if you look older, but most places do have a "if you look under 21" policy as explained in a previous answer :) Restaurants all depend on if you think you can get away with it. Some places dont mind 16/17 yr olds having a drink with a meal but i think thats off the record !! Legally they're not allowed :) And finally .... never heard of the absolut ice bar - Sorry!

You are legally allowed to drink in the UK at 18. However some bars don't allow drinking until 21. You can go into bars at 14, I think but you must be accompanied by an adult.....Preferably your parents.

Europe only recently started enforcing drinking age restrictions (as jduck indicated)...used to be in Germany (I lived there), if you could reach the bar and pay for a drink, you were not refused. Now, they've instituted these parental guidelines. Go to an Oktoberfest there, they'll be carding!

18years old....... but I think you're allowed to drink at home under parental supervision at 14yrs old if parents have given you the thumbs up to do so.
