A D&C is where they go in to your uterus and scrap and suck everything out. Like if you have a miscarriage and its still in there and needs to come out before it sets up infection. There are other reasons for a D&C but this is my reason.

Yes I've had 2 due to miscarriages. it's not bad so don't worry. they take you in, put you on an IV and when the time comes they inject some medicine into the IV that will put you to sleep or give you an amnesia effect were you can't remember anything (you feel like you were asleep). Next thing you know you'll be in recovery. you may have mild cramps (like mild menstrual cramps) but that's it. Don't worry, it's going to be fine.

had one a few months ago. My doctor decided for me to be asleep during mine so I don't know what goes on during the procedure. I just know they vacuum or scrape out your uterus, sometimes both. When I woke up I was in a lot of pain, but they gave me some pain medicine right then and I was fine. I had cramping and bleeding for a week or so after that. You will be fine it is really no worse than a bad period. I'm sorry you have to go through this. I will attach some sites for you that might help if you are miscarrying. I've been there and I know how sad it is. God bless.

i had one last year. Depends on where and how you are having yours done. I chose to be completely put to sleep. They do have them in private doctor's offices with a regular local sleep agent. But i chose the stronger stuff. It was kind of scary. I had to use the "abortion pill" (i forgot what it was called) to start the contractions 4 hours before the scheduled procedure. an hour later, the contractions started. the only thing that compared to the pain was the onset of regular labor. contractions, pain and all. it was very exhausting and uncomfortable. When we got to the hospital, they offered me some painkillers. When they put me under i barely remember anything seconds afterwards. I do remember waking up and starting to cry. The nurses were supportative and did their best to contact my husband who was outside waiting. They sent me home the same day. i think the whole process took less than an hour.
There was cramping days afterwards, almost a week. if they give you a painkiller prescription, take it! don't do any heavy lifting, don't be stressed about going to work. you will go when you are ready.
and I am so sorry for your loss.

I did to clear a miscarriage. It is scary going in to it but you will be okay. It took me a while though to shake off the feeling that it was an abortion. I saw the ultrasounds with proof of a dead fetus but it was still a long time before I stopped asking myself 'what if the doctors were wrong and I killed it?'.
I hope I didn't make things worse for you. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone if you end up feeling this way.

I had a d&c for a blighted ovum (sperm and egg met, but didn't develop) I was freaked out as well...it really wasn't that bad. THey take you into the OR and put you under...I remember waking up...and I just felt a little crampy (like the cramps you get at the start of your period) I bled for a day or 2...then it stopped. It came back a day or so later...adn I had bleeding for about 2 weeks (perfectly normal) after a day or do after the surgery...the cramps were gone. You can take midol or advil for the cramps Good Luck!!

Most people have a D&C when they are having a miscarriage. It is just something they do to clean out the uterus.

I have had a D & C. The procedure I had done should not even be compared to what a smart Dr would do. (no medication)
A good doc will give you medication to allow you to NOT feel anything while they are doing the D & C. Afterwards pain medication for a few days should do the trick.
Good luck and sorry you have to go through this.

They go in a scrape the inside of your uterus. Afterwards you will have some bleeding and cramping for a few days.

I had one after I gave birth because a piece of the placenta had ripped and was retained in me. I just remember them scraping me out like a pumpkin. It was no fun!
