I know some people are trying to help but all they see is the negativity: diabetes, heart failure, no friends, bullied, teased, lonely, ugly, no one will love them, they stink, not good at sports, etc.
They should tell about some of the good things about them being heavy, just to give them some self-esteem.
I've seen some beautiful overweight children that were not teased all the time, had many friends, became successful and became parents.
All they hear is lose weight to become happy and popular and good-looking.
I wish there was a job where I could help overweight children with their self-esteem and body image. To see there life in a more positive light. I would like to volunteer but that doesn't pay the bills after a while. Does anyone know where there are any jobs like this? I would appreciate it.

Someone should just tell these kids how much their appreciated. Should be given compliments for all thier achievments.

I was a fat kid in elementary school and when I hit junior high I slimmed down. Mostly for joining sports. Others won't be able to do that because of heredity.

Though sadly enough diabetes is on the rise and people should be educated about it.

I understand the point you're trying to make but its a difficult subject.
Talking about the benefits of obesity is like saying "People who are alcoholics have lots of fun at parties." or "Getting pregnant as a teenager is easier and healthier than getting pregnant in your forties."
May be true but do you really want to encourage such behavior?

I agree that our society is far too body conscious and leaves little room for varied body shapes. But there is a big difference between a larger body type and obesity.
By the by, what athletes are obese?? Football Lineman are big but I don't know if I'd call most obese, that definetly not the ideal.

obesity is a genetic based issue. Many people have it in their blood. What brings it out is the marketing ploys of the food companies .

The food companies should have a ethical policy when it comes to dishing out food that only causes obesity. There should be laws to insure this.

Society is just now beginning to realize the full impact of obesity and it will just be a matter of time before they do something about it.

I don't know of any jobs available in that area, but that is a good idea. It would be very hard for them to lose weight when people keep tearing down their self-esteem.

You sound like a very compassionate person, I hope you find some way to make a difference in children's lives. Good luck to you.

No clue. However, society is more accepting of overweight kids nowadays than they used to be. I know this because I just finished my kid's school clothes shopping and every store I went to had "Plus size" and "husky sized" clothes. Kind of made me mad because my children are extremely thin and I had a hard time finding slim clothing for them!!!!!!!!

Why aren't we telling these horrible parents to stop damaging their kids by shoving so much unhealthy food into their mouths? I think causing your kids to become fat should be declared a form of child abuse. These fat kids were made that way by their caretakers. Can't you volunteer to teach people to stop feeding their kids crap?

Sorry to be rude, but really.

Try Taco Bell... Tell them to order Supreme Tacos instead of regular... that sour cream will make them feel better.
