I have been going out with my boyfriend for about 8 months now, and he has been here illegally since he was 10 ( he is now 20). He has not asked me to marry him, but it has come up in our conversations a few times, and he is thinking about marrying someone else for 2,000 dollars. I would like to marry him (not acting as his wife, it's just a paper) just to help him, but I don't know if I can because I'm just turning 18 soon and I only have about 5,000 dollars to my name. So I guess my questions are:
1) Would the government allow us to marry even if I had not a lot of money?
2) Would he have to go back to Mexico first?

i can't believe there are so many rude, ignorant, racist people out there. i know for a fact i'm not being used, and he didn't even ask me to do it- i came up with the idea on my own. also, he works, goes to school, and speaks english very well. he also goes to church and is very respectful and kind. i really do love him and it makes me angry that the majority of you posted such rude comments.

1. he is not really in love with you, and has warped it to appear like he loves you.
2. he would be getting you into a ton of trouble, and would have to abandon you and your children...
3. If he already has told you that he is marryng someone for $2,000, then why didn't you RUN the other way?
4. He must declare that he has consumated the marriage, and is a happily married man. Then his legal wife is supposed to appear with him, and with their children, and with testimony, and affidavits, from neighbors and releatives, of his fidelity and happiness, over the period of 5 years or more!
If it comes out that you are the genuine love of his life, his 'wife' is subject to legal penalties for perjury, as are anyone who declares the lies, and, possibly, YOU!
Look, I have a friend of 50 who is going through a VERY expensive divorce, because the woman he was 'helping to gain citizenship' has decided she would like his car, his house, full support, alimony, half his business, and the dog. After 5 years of marriage, it looks like she'll get it all!
And, she speaks Spanish, so is favored in court, with an interpreter (at his expense!), which draws out the entire thing, even though she is an English teacher at the college! She is simply careful to ONLY speak Spanish!
She has even taken possession of all HIS mothers' and Grandmothers' heirlooms, that were in the family!
If he loves you so much, ask him to be LEGAL! I will bet you that he cannot, because he is convicted somewhere, or has something to hide, but, in any case, the whole thing is a disaster, a real train wreck!
Save yourself! Find a REAL AMERICAN! All the Americans I know, who married foreigners ended up regretting it ( I served over 20 years in our military)! You are the most desired "Stepping Stone to America" for poor immigrants, illegal, or legal! It beats waiting 16 years for the queue to move!
BTW, When he decides that he is tired of the charade, the lies, of being your 'Husband', he can take the children across the border, and you are LOST! You will NEVER win in a Mexican court, against any Mexican!

1. They would allow you to marry, but you don't make enough to support him. And if you are found out to be a 'sham' marriage, you will be charged with felony visa fraud. He will be banned from the country and you face jail time (happy 18th birthday to you)
2. Yes, he would probably have to go back first.
If he really wants to stay, he should contact an immigration lawyer. If he's willing to pay someone else to marry him, he should be willing to pay a lawyer to look at his case and find a legal way to get him in. He may be able to stay during the whole process if he goes through a lawyer considering how young he was when he entered the country.

It's really not a good idea I understand why you want to it, and yes he would have to go back to Mexico for 3 years,a friend of mine is going through this right now with a lawyer they have been working with for 2 years. They have been married for ten years just misinformed They thought he was automatically a citizen. So it was a real marriage and they are still very much in love.

First, where the heck is your personal moral? Since when do you get married for nothing?
That not only looks bad on you, but if you have a future marriage, and something is to go wrong-- the judge can grant on his behalf because of your past marriage(s).
Don't be dumb!!
Second, he is an illegal.. You could be charged with aiding and abetting. Don't mix up yourself in his ordeal.
He is already telling you he's going to marry someone else for $2,000.00. Little does he know, he has to stay with them for a little more than 7 years before he can get his citizenship.
Plus, he's using her to do this-- why would you want to be with someone that purposely uses somebody for their own good? That's selfish!!
Stay smart, and keep your money--- throw him away! He is doing nothing but pulling you into this mess that he has created on his own! It's time for him to learn some responsability and grow up!
"El_oso_cande..." ie: one of the first few answers-- he is a pro-activist! Do NOT FOLLOW WHAT HE SAYS!! HE IS IN SUPPORT OF CRIMINALS-- IE: ILLEGALS AND IN SUPPORT OF THE DESTRUCTION OF THE UNITED STATES!!! This is a sovereign country where laws are to be abided by! If people choose to live here, they should do so by the means of LEGAL channels-- not fraud or forgery!
DO NOT FOLLOW WHAT THAT MAN SAYS!!! YOU ARE YOUNG AND I'M SURE, CERTAINLY NOT STUPID ENOUGH TO FOLLOW A CRIMINAL!!
This is what pisses me off!! People--- young and old, mainly those whom are adults telling YOU the young lady that its OKAY to break the law!
It is NOT OKAY!! IT IS NOT OKAY TO BREAK ANY LAW!! DO NOT FOLLOW A PRO-ILLEGAL!!
Keep sane by moving on! It's the best thing for you! This guy you're speaking of is using you-- and most likely will want you to pay that 2,000.00 bucks!
Be smart and lead the way!

I'm not quite sure where you get the idea that these people are a bunch of ignorant racists. this is the nicest I've seen anyone be on this forum. no one has made any racial slurs (illegal immigrant is not a slur), you asked for their advise, and they gave it, nicely. if you don't like their opinion you don't have to take it. i have a feeling, their right on the money, and you will be sorry, if you don't heed their warnings

I would not suggest that you marry if you are not ready for a real marriage and in love with him. Having said that, He will need a sponser. They will need to have a job. Also, yes, he will have to return to Mexico for at least 5 months. I would suggest that he speak to an immigration lawyer, they are confidential and the consultation is usually free.

I AM GOING TO TELL U AS NICE AS I CAN!!!!!!!
UR ALMOST 18,
*NOT ABLE; TO YOUNG*!!!!!!!!!
IF YOU WERE 18 OR OLDER,
U WOULD HAVE 2 PROVE,
"U" COULD SUPPORT HIM AND YOURSELF,
WAIT ABOUT 3-7 YEARS 4 HIS PAPERS,
IF ALL IS OK, NO BAD POLICE RECORD,
(FELONIES ROBBERIES) ECT......
ALL SHOULD B OK,
TELL EM U R DOING IT 2 HELP EM,
NOT TRAP HIM 4 LIFE,
MOST GUYS WOULD RATHER PAY, THEN TAKE THE CHANCE OF THE GIRL FALLING 4 EM, HAVING HIS KID AND HAVING 2 PAY CHILD SUPPORT.
($2000 REALLY CHEAP, HE MAY NOT GET SOMEONE 2 DO IT FOR THAT LITTLE AMOUNT!)
BUT WHO KNOWS!!!!!!!?????
TALK IT OUT W/ HIM,
ALONE!!!!!!
GOOD-LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
