just bought 50" toshiba dlp, my cable co gives you digital cables (rca) with the decoder, i have my dvd player set up for progressive scan with dig cables on it also. should i pay the $ for the hdmi cables or is it a waste?

You can get HDMI cables for much less than that amount! Here is a possible source:

Don't be swayed by claims of better picture quality with high-priced cables. With HDMI, if it works at all (you get a picture), it's as good as it gets.

Definitely switch to HDMI cables for best results.

Note: another reason for using HDMI on your DVD player: most players will upconvert to HDTV formats only on the HDMI output.

If you are currently running component video for HDTV signals (I would normally assume this but your post is a little vague), there is very little if anything to be gained to switching to HDMI....

you get a little better picture but not worth a $109. more if you dont have a surroundsoun system and other things like i do on my 60" plasma.
