Guys, is it weird dating a girl who has a child?

It seems like the older I get the more and more women I meet have children or are married or married and already divorced. I am only 25 but I just met this chick who is awesome but I just found out that she has a kid. I never really have dated someone with a child, it just seem a little weird to me. I guess cause I havent experienced it that much though. I just dont know what to expect!!

Instant Family Syndrome. It is great! There will be problems but all in all it has been great. I got two daughter and a wife. There have been times that the ex has been a pain but the rule of thumb is it is between them! You will do a lot to be involved in their childs life. It is what mothers really want, THE FULL PACKAGE so to speak a husband and someone who cares about their child.
If you like this woman jump in! Don't get the child involved right away, let the relationship between you two grow first before you bring the child into it. That way if things go bad only one person gets hurt and not the child. Be careing be considerate and help pay for the babysitter!

It seems weird because it is werid. There are plenty of single women who have not had another man's child already. There are several reasons not to date a woman with a child:

1) The childs needs will always come before (as it should be) your needs and the child is not yours, this pits you against the child for her attention and the child will always win (as it should be).

2) Why did she have a child with a man she is no longer with? This is a sign of bad judgement. Wear a condom every time! Maybe that's how the first guy got on the hook!

3) Does she need a boyfriend or a dad? Sure boyfriend on the short term but don't underestimate the lengths that a mother will go to provide for her child's financial and stability needs. You may not see her true plan until years in the future. She may also not be consciously aware of it!

4) Some strange guy is always in the picture and will show up all the time and constantly be there. No matter how much you love the kid the kid will be his child. And he also slept with your girflriend a lot of times. If you date her you are dating him too. They are a package deal.

This may sound harsh but in life there's choices and consequences. You will make bad choices and you will face the consequences for those choices. Why would you willingly take on the consequences of someone else's bad choices also?

If you don't date single mothers you won't fall in love with them.

You can expect that her relationship with her child will come first...and your relationship with her will have to take a back seat to that. You can also expect that she may be hesitant about you forming a strong bond with her child until she is sure that you're going to be around for a long time...because if you break up with her you will be hurting not only her, but her child as well.

Neither of these things mean that you shouldn't give her a chance...they just mean you should be prepared for what you're getting into...which could be a wonderful relationship. Hope this helps.

It is not weird to date a girl who has a child. However, it is important to be clear on what you want and what you are looking for in the relationship. If you just want to date and have fun, then that is fine as long as you communicate this to her. I say this only because many single mothers I know are looking for serious relationships, so it is good to be honest and upfront since there is a kid involved.

Just don't do it, Unless you are willing to deal with a whole lot of crap from a Kid down the road, The kid will act out because you are not the natural parent you will have to deal with the father from time to time. I know first hand believe me I would never make that mistake again If I knew what I do now. If you just want a piece of tail and have fun with No intentions of a long time relation ship go for it but beware good luck.

Nope, as long as the guy and girl are comfortable with it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Besides 23 and 20 isn't much of a difference and it's pretty common although most of the time the guy is 23 but that doesn't matter.

There is nothing wrong with her having a child. You are 25 years old and not too mature. You shouldn't be calling any girl "a chick" let alone saying you are only 25. You should not let her having a child get to you and stop you from dating her.

We are all human beings (I think) and for no strange reason the females of our species usually wind up with the children; as men would be totally inept in most cases to care for them. I acquired my first daughter at the age of six months when I married her mother. She was joined by 5 sisters either biologically or through adoption and the six of them are now registered to me as a weapon of mass destruction. Don't overanalyze or overthink on this; just be a good person and try to see that you both have a happy and eventful life. Good luck.
