Are calorie counters (or the device which tells you how many calories you've burnt) on exercise machines accurate... like cycling machines or treadmills. Somehow I think they can be wrong????

No they are not - as the other answers say, they are just an estimate of the average person'a calorific output.
If you are really interested in finding out how many calories you burn doing a certain exercise, you need to go to a sports science lab to be tested fot oxygen consumption. Some personal trainers in the US are using a piece of kit called "bodygem" to measure, and this should soon be in the UK

Different people have different metabolisms. It would be impossible for a machine to be 100% accurate. The more information the machine gets about height, age and weight, the more accurage the estimation is likely to be. It is worth emphasising though that it is an ESTIMATION not an exact figure.

Absolutley not!!!!!!!!!!

They take into account the amount of energy required to do one cycle then estimate how many calories this would take the average person to complete.

This is different for every person.

Also calories out do not equal calories in.

No they simply are just an estimation. Its more like a 35+- calorie lose depending on your body.

not at all they just give a rough guestimate for an average user on an average day. They can be more accurate if they take into account weight and size etc. but still a guestimate

I am sure they are not 100% accurate but if you use the same gym/machines each time, you can make comparisons on how hard you work during each session.

No. They only give an estimate, as it depends on your body weight and height & age etc on how many calories you actually burn
