With regards to baptisms and/or confirmations....this is supposedly "holy" water used during these ceremonies. Chances are good this is the same water that came out of some tap in some municipality somewhere in this world and landed in a bottle, similiar to what makes it into a bottle of Ozarka.

What's so holy about that? What makes it holy? The fact that a preacher or minister blesses it or what? I've never understood how this could be declared "holy" water?

It's just a question folks...don't shoot me for it.

It is holy because they did the ritual that made it holy. I don't think they can make it unholy again no matter what happens to it afterward. There must be millions of gallons of holy water in the world by now; some is rain, some is snow, some is in the melting polar icecaps. Even Ozarka might have a touch of holiness in some bottles but it probably is not on the list of contents. Try meditating about the holy water or praying for enlightenment about holy water. Ask your priest for help.

Holy Water is made holy by:
A) Obtaining pure distilled water.
B) Obtaining blessed salt. Plain sodium chloride that has been previously blessed by a priest asking that God bless it.
C) Putting the two ingredients together and having a priest ask God for His blessing upon the water. Then it's Holy. What we ask for from God in Jesus' Name, we get.

Holy Water is not to be sold. NO holy item may be sold. That is the sin of simony. Look it up. Any item made and sold for religious purposes may be sold and blessed, but only AFTER the sale may it be blessed. Only then does it become holy.

It's holy if you believe it is. For you.

I don't see that a priest should have anything to do with it. Or would holy water be less holy if blessed by a priest who has sinned?

To me, it's just water. Not too clean either, with everyone sticking their unwashed fingers into it.

The only thing I know about holy water is that u can't drink it...my mom told me this as I tried to slurp it outta the bowl as a child. I guess holy water shouldn't be dirty if it was really holy.

It has been prayed over asking that it be blessed by God/God(s)/goddess/goddess(s). It is not the preacher/minister/preist/preistess that blesses the water.
