My female dog [shitzu] humps my other female dog taht's her size and she humps that cat too. I'm not joking this is for real. She also eats cat food and doesn't like dog food. We told the vet and he said just don't let her eat too much of it, but is the humping thing normal?

It is a sign of dominance and it is not uncommon. The cat food is more to worry about... she won't get proper nutrition if she only eats cat food.

The humping shouldn't be a concern unless it bothers/embarasses you... Every time she mounts another animal you can roll her on her back and hold her for a few seconds... every time she tries... say 'no' too.. that will establish that you don't want her to do it and that you are the alpha dog. Being 8 it may take some time to change her bad habits, but if you're persistant it will work eventually.

About the cat food - it´s not good for her. Dogs should eat dog food. Cat food has a different balance of protein and fat.
About the humping: normal. I had 4 female dogs up to a short time ago, now there´s three. And they do that all the time. It´s either a matter of control, or it´s an attempt to create a closer-knit group. It doesn´t mean that your dog´s a lesbian.

Here I thought we were the only one with a cat humping dog!!!! We have a shitzu also-9 years old, not fixed who humps both our cats. It is really just too funny but I am not planning on any "catdogs" in the future.

Humping for dogs is a way to show dominance. She isn't doing it in a sexual way...just to show the other animals who's boss of the house. As far as the catfood goes...it really isn't healthy for dogs to eat cat food. It would be best if you could put it out of her reach...when she gets hungry enough she'll start eating the dog food you give her.

I think it might be normal. My dog is a male and humps my other male dog about his size. He does it as a territorial thing. And my other dog sometimes tries to hump the cat but she is to small. And the cat eats dog food sometimes and they eat her food.

It's normal for a dog who's showing dominance toward the other one. Put a stop to it.

Dogs should not eat cat food. The formula is all wrong for them. You need to find a food that your dog likes and stick with it.

I guess a vet would know best. But I don't think the cat food is good for her.

Sure is. Dogs mount other dogs to exhibit status and control, not just for sexual reasons. Females mount males and other females; males mount females and other males.
