I'd recommend getting a car that is a year old. You'll get a much better price than buying new, and the car will most likely have low miles and not much wear and tear. Also, there will still be a factory warranty sometimes. Just be sure to do a carfax ahead of time before you buy a used vehicle!

No one these days, with the cost of gas, etc., is undecided about a "car or truck." Dump the truck. I know the loser guys out there will no longer consider you one hot momma but, then, it's been a few seasons since Homer got in his truck and pulled up alongside and yelled, "Damn straight, womern, you is one hot tamale." Everything gets old, honey, and you are aging as you read this.
Two hundred bucks a month? Not since the turn of the Century - unless the lessor is getting a pound of "sugar" on the side. Now put on a pair of pants and get out there and use your good sense. Clue: It's in your head, asleep and possibly comatose. Give it an aspirin and call the doctor.

I would recommend you look in the newspapers and look for cars one-two years old. that have a factory warranty. I would recommend the Japanese Imports if you are a pretty good driver because they are not so impact resistant but are fuel efficent and last a long time. But then if you also want an American car try and get a factory warranty. I would recommend the Ford Fusion because it is not the fuel taking, unlike many other car brands like the Ford Fusion and the other GM Company. This is basically my chioce in your situation.

You could go towards another american car, as you can probably get lower payments. But remeber, the down payment is a lot, and will cost you more in the long term:

ex.
$2000 down with 24month lease at $175 p/m = $258 p/m

I would recommend a Toyota Corolla for several reasons. They are well made, and don't use too much gas. Insurance will be reasonable, and maintenance is not a big issue. Good all-around vehicle, and they even have good resale value.
Good luck.

if i were you, I'd look up on the internet cheap cars with great milage. A Ford Escord is small, but gets great milage and is pretty cheap.

Go for fuel economy.
Get a Toyota...less maintance problems, runs a long time, won't eat up your gas budget.

if there is nothing wrong with your truck, other than its a ford, you should see if you have the option to buy it after the lease is up.keep america working and dont listen to everyone telling you to buy all these imports.
