My 9 year old maltese started peeing on the floor when his brother passed away. Everytime time he did we put him in a crate and told him NO. We also cleaned the area with the cleaning solution that removes the odor. After a couple of trips to the crate he stopped peeing in the house and is asking to go outside.
Hope that helps!

I assume you just got the dog so, you'll have to train him as you would a puppy. Frequent trips outside with praise and treats when he goes outside. It may take a little while since he's used to going inside but, he is smarter than a pup so, he might catch on quickly. good luck and be patient

that could be tough to do at it's age. If it's new behavior, you may want to have him checked out, he simply may not be able to hold his bowels like he could when he was younger. I doubt he's been doing this the entire 9 years you've had him. You may want to simply try putting down a puppy pad and giving him a place where he can relieve himself, and it will make for easy clean up.

Check the carpet. If there is any trace of odor, the dog assumes it is an acceptable place.

alright. this probly isnt something u will want to hear as dogs get older and older and their health decreases and they develop arthiritis its ver hard for them to walk or to let you know they have to go (especially in bigger dogs) their bladder shrinks and they basically go without knowin it. is this dog laying down and just goes or what?

try crate training, put him in a crate and every two hours and every other time you take him out, take him immediately outside. eventually he will learn it isnt acceptable to go in the house.
