As our wedding date approaches, we area realizing that we have a lot of the little details to worry about.

Gifts for the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Gifts for the ushers, etc. And the parents. Oh the parents!

Here's the question: Why is it customary to give parents gifts? It was originally included in the wedding budget, which would mean they would buy their own gifts.

I'm not really looking for gift ideas, really. If you want to give ideas, that's great; just know that it's not my intent to find ideas.

It is customary to thank them, but not have them buy themselves something. A lot of couples give them something from their honeymoon and a frammed wedding photo with a nice frame and a thank you note. Keep it simple, but make sure to let them know you appriciate the help.

Why is it customary to give parents gifts??? LOL. Are you kidding?

Well, if your parents and/or his parents are paying (and probably paying big $$$, being that weddings are not cheap) don't you think it's a nice gesture to thank them in some way? You don't have to go extravagant, just a token of thanks. It should not have been included in the budget if they are paying. It should be included in YOUR budget. And just an FYI, the groomsmen and bridesmaids gifts should be paid for by YOU. Not your parents...it's not their wedding it's yours.

Yes, you should get your parents a gift. Pay for it yourself. It can be as simple as a candied photo of the 4 of you at the reception.

Or I will let you have my idea... have the photographer take a photo of the 2 of you in front of the alter and have your parents in the background while they watch the ceremony. Put that in a nice frame and there you go!!

Congratulations on your wedding!

If your parents paid for your wedding then your suppose to buy them a gift. Your parents would not have budget that in...that's tacky...
If your paying for your own wedding- then you can just give them a photograph or the parent's wedding album as your gift.

You should give them something.

I gave each set a 8 x 10 frame with the wedding date and our names engraved. It was very nice.

To the mom's I took them to have a massage a few day's before.

For my dad I gave him a picture for him to carry that day from when I was little... I did that seprate from everything else and only mom and dad know about it.

We also gave hankies to the mom's...

I feel lame... I've never heard of this tradition. But it does sound like a very nice thing. Parents often don't get enough thanks.
