Are there any medications or other treatments available to help the recovery or growth of nerves that control the movement of feet and ankles?

This is the deal. If this is a sudden injury, then the answer varies. If the nerve is completely severed then no, unless some surgery is able to reconnect them and even then you're looking at limited use. If the nerve is still intact partially, then there is hope. The person needs to keep sending the impulse to move their feet, which encourages healing of the nerve. Even if they can't move their feet at first, they may be able to later. I've seen a girl paralyzed from the neck down recover completely.

Now, if you are talking nerve damage from diabetes, or some other peripheral vascular disease, then that's cumulative and there is little chance of improvement, unless the person has not been well-controlled (diabetic) and is suddenly watching their diet. Then there might be some improvement, but don't expect alot. Once nerve damage is done, there's usually little improvement unfortunately.

But, have faith, and know that millions of people have this condition and live happy lives. It's all about attitude and perception.

You don't mention how you acquired the nerve damage. However, I will try to answer your question. Nerves can repair themselves. It takes a long time. According to my rheumatologist, (after I had a nerve biopsy on my right ankle) the nerve will begin to return to normal at the rate of one inch per six months.
If you have a chronic nerve condition where the nerve is degenerating, like Neuropathy where the feet go numb, then you are out of luck. You will end up having your toes, and eventually your foot go numb like mine has.

I should warn you though, I am giving you an answer without knowing a lot of the details. You should really see a doctor about your condition.

If you have the tingling and numbness in your feet from nerve damage you may want to ask your doctor about a medication called Neurontin. I take it every day. I also suggest you look into a website http://www.neuropathy.org. They have a lot of information that could help.

Sometimes enthusiastic yes, sometimes not so much. On YA we repeatedly find yes/no, black/white questions. Reality isn't like that most of the time. Enlightenment helps with healing because the self story gets out of the way. Enlightenment is when (among other things) no more self story arises. And the self is a big obstruction to healing, both healing self or healing other. Healing still happens. Some selves still manifest but step aside so that the Immensity manifests and healing happens. You might look up " John of God " an amazing example of this phenomena. The Buddha was not interested in people's current situation so much, looking more to their recurrent patterns lifetime-after-lifetime, yet even he acted to help others who suffered from illness. Many people today suffer terribly and would not if they practiced the path to Elightenment. Are they interested in healing others ? Depends on their " karma" past actions regarding healing others. Enlightenment is the ultimate healing. Nothing can be described in words beyond this. Wikijo has had the good fortune to meet many who, if they weren't actually enlightened, came so close that Wikijo himself could not tell how close they were. All of these people enjoyed magnificent health. What health issues may have assailed them did not disturb them nor did they pay any attention to such things. May you be so fortunate. Peace.

The nerves do not recover as quickly as say skin and bone because there arent as many regenerative cells. But it is possible, much slower and depends upon your age and the severity of the damage.
