take it to a mechanic first to make sure the engine is ok. Otherwise sounds ok to me.

Have you gone online and determined blue book value? Have you obtained a Carfax printout detailing the service record - or lack thereof - for the vehicle? Fifty five thousand miles is a lot of miles for a car that is about 3 years old, but not a lot if the car has been cared for very well. Was oil and filter changed every 3 - 5000 miles? Does private party have repair/service records? Transmission serviced at least once? Take care to a local mechanic and pay him/her a few dollars to check car out. You got to do the "homework." No one online can tell you if that is good or bad deal unless they are Carmack the Magician or someone of equal or better talent. You can reach Carmack by calling 1-800 555-4657.
The Carivan is a SUV. Do you see the cost of gas? Have you factored that in? You wouldn't need a van unless have 6+ children and if you do, shame on you!

Well, what does it have? A/C? Power everything? Sun roof? How are the tires, rims? How does the body look. Any damage? Have you seen the title? Watch for an "S" on the title (to indicate that the vehicle has been in a major accident and was deemed a "Salvage" vehicle)... we need more details about the vehicle to really accurately assess the value for you.
Try these sites, they are some of the industry standards for valuation of vehicles:

Looks like a good buy, but probably you can negotiate a better price. Get your mechanic. My in laws had a 97 one and it has been very good and reliable.

lol, somebody else stated the call Moose? I frequently recommend the call Moose for each horse call questions I answer (as long as their for barn names, and not practice names)! Infact it rather is my common horse call EVER and once I get a horse of my very own some day (if it rather is a gelding or stallion), that's what i pass to call him! ? So i might recommend the call Moose, it rather is cute!

depends on the opinions that it has, but from the average if you are buying from the dealer it's a really good deal since it's worth over $11,000 at the dealer, but if you are buying it from someone privietly then it's just a couple hundred over the value.

go to cars.com or autotrader.com, plug in the year, make of the car & see what others are being sold for around the country. This is THE best way to gauge price.
good luck.

Yes...the book value is $11,500. But I would run a carfax report on it first to make sure that it has not been in an accident, flood or fire go to http://www.carfax.com
