i was supposed to get a new puppy tonight, i paid my deposit on it and was willing to make a 4 hour drive to get it at a farm where the litter was. i got a call about 4 hours ago saying that something got into the barn and attacked a bunch of animals, puppy included and it had to be put to sleep. i'm so upset. we got everything we needed for this dog, and even had a name tag already made up for it with his name. i feel like i miscarried or something. like i never even got to see my baby. what should i do?

for those who mentioned it, the man said he was sending my deposit back. so *fingers crossed* on that one. but now i'm starting to believe i was lied to. he has a blog, that is written in a few times a day. on the 10 and 11 of Aug, he wrote about goats and sheep being attacked. then on tuesday, he wrote how he had 3 puppies left, then later he wrote he had one left and she had an appointment with the new owner this weekend. but the page with the pups that was updated the 11th said there was only 2 left, and he put my name uder the one i wanted. well, i wanted a "he" so i assumed that this "she" was the last one. then on thursday i get the call and he said there were no more puppies. but he had previously told me this was his kids favorite, and it had been on hold a long time but the other person could never come and get it. and now, he's updated his blog 6 times since i spoke to him about the puppy being killed and not mentioned ONCE that there was another attack at the barn.

i'm starting to think he lied and either kept the dog or sold it to someone else. what do you think? this guy swears to be very religious so i dont know if he would lie to give his 5 kids this puppy they loved, or if there really was an attack, why wouldnt they mention that their beloved puppy was killed, or at least that there WAS an attack. this guy even posted about having to put his daughters cat to sleep after its entire back was broke, so its not like they dont talk about animals getting hurt.
it just doesnt add up.....

I am so sorry! Go adopt a dog at the pound so you can use the things you bought. Plus you will be saving another animal in the memory of your poor puppy.

Take it as a sign that this wasn't the puppy from you. If the pups were in a barn where other animals could get to it, it likely wasn't a good place to get a dog from. Make sure they give you your money back. With that money, go get a dog from the shelter...they seem to have even more love to give...and you'll be giving a deserving dog a loving home. Take the loads of money you'll likely have left over by adopting and buy lots of toys, the right food, etc to spoil your new baby.

I'm really sorry this happened. I would say, let yourself grieve, don't listen to any smart-aleck people on here who might make fun of you, be sad for a while, and after a time when you are not thinking about it every day anymore, you can think about starting over. Don't run out and do it today though.
On a practical note, I hope they gave you your deposit back?
Some other things that might help - have a small private ceremony, a little mini-funeral, write a letter to the puppy you lost - might help you say goodbye.

That is horrible. I am so sorry. Are you ok? I would be devastated too. I wish i had a puppy to give you that matches the name you already have. I hope all works out for you. Just see if you can get the same breed of what that pup was. Again, I am soo sorry for what happened. Good luck with all you do.

something similar happened to my nephew when he was 5 and had picked out a puppy and it died.

Just give yourself the room in your heart to find a new love. There are so many wonderful dogs out there, I know there is another one just waiting for you to love it. Take a look on Petfiner.com at the puppies available in your area.

I do hope that these people are going to give you your deposit back - that is the least they can do under the circumstances.

wait a little while then go to your local animal shelter and look for another puppy to love.

time heals.....very sad, but don't be afraid to love again.

you sound like a wonderful dog lover, some new puppy is really going to be lucky to have you as it's mommy:)

(hope they put up more protection at the barn so this incident won't be repeated...once a predator finds a spot like that to attack they may return!)

Are these people going to be returning your deposit? If you believe the story, there is nothing that you can do. If this is a pup from a special breeder, then you could wait until the next litter.

sorry to hear about that but there are more dogs out there waiting for a new home like yours. people like you are the good people because you love animals and were willing to drive 4 hrs away to get your new family member. well now go to the animal shelter around where you live and there is a puppy waiting for you to bring him to your home and make him a part of your family. good luck on finding a new one

I'm sorry to hear about the puppy. No wonder you feel rotten!

If the story is on the level, about all you can do is get your deposit back- Unless you're willing to wait for another puppy.

Good luck!

Oh my god, that's the worst thing that I have heard. I am so sorry to hear about your loss, you have every right to mourn the puppy and be upset. As you can imagine time will heal all things and maybe you can consider opening your heart to a puppy again
