I have a poor lady calling my phone and speaking Italian and sometimes leaving messages on my voice mail for what sounds like must be her daughter or someone else dear to her. I need to let her know she is not reaching her daughter (although my husband's American voice on the vm should be a hint!)

Apart from s's answer (above me), the others don't make much sense. You say "avete" (you have) only to a group of people. It's second person plural. Since this is a lady, you want to say: "Ha sbagliato numero" (pr. "ah sbah-llee-ah-toe noo-mae-row") which literally means "you got (dialed) the number wrong". That's what Italians say on the phone all the time when someone has the wrong number.

Lei ha fatto il numero (telefonico) sbagliato.

should mean you have dialled the wrong number

pronounced -kind of- like this if I'm trying to use English sounds:
"Lay ah fah-toe eel noo-may-row (tay-lay-foe-knee-koe) sbah-lee-ah-toe"

please steer way clear of sdfdaksdkl d's answer - it's a whole load of rude things

the other constructive answers are all usable to the extent that the lady will understand what you mean, even if they contain errors (particularly: avete instead of ha, that would be overly polite, like talking to someone a century ago, but she'd understand)
