The reason bites itch is that insect venom or saliva is in the wound and causing irritation or an allergic reaction the more you scratch the more you spread the stuff around and it itches in more places. Find an antihistimine calomine lotion or something to diffuse poison like antacid for alkaline based or alkali/ base for acid based poison.

Most of the insects have a little portion of poison that stays in your skins few days till your organism absorbs it, the reaction that your skin does during this process is the itches

I don't have fleas so I wouldn't know. I knew a girl named Midge and her bites didn't itch as much as they left big, purple welts.

When they bite you they inject something into you to thin the blood so they can suck it out and its whatever they put in you that makes you itch. Scratching spreads the toxin and makes you itch more.

mosquito's are very dirty, why do think people suffer from malaria in poorer countries when bitten, they itch cus your body's fighting the germs they put in you. The last thing they may have bitten before you could of been a rat!!!

The body reacts to 'save' you by releasing histamine and other mediators from damaged cells; this causes the reaction of heat swelling and redness ( calor, dolor& rubor).

Anything bites if it's irritable enough, the itchy swelling is probably a warning to us and our immune system to let us know we've been bit.

Technically, everyone is allergic to them. There is a VERY small percentage of humans who aren't, and when they get bit, it won't itch and a spot won't appear.
