My best friend is getting married in October. I am her maid of honor. Because of that, I have been involved in quite a bit of the wedding process: dress picking, planning, bridal shower, etc.

Anyway, lately I have been envious of her. I am in a long-term relationship (Been friends with the guy about 2 years and dated about a year, and now live together.) and really feel this urge of wanting to get engaged.

Note: My relationship is great. I'm really happy, and I had a LONG talk with my boyfriend last night and he says he wants to marry me, but wants to be able to (financially) support me before he does.

He also said something that I thought was odd. He said that all (single) women go through wedding envy when someone close to them gets married, and that he expected to hear it a lot sooner than now.

My questions are:

Does every girl get wedding envy? Is it normal?

And, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fight these feelings? I feel like a moron and want to be rid of them.

You shouldn't be feeling like a moron at all. This same thing happened to me last week. When a girlfriend of mine told me that she got married 2 weekends ago I became envious. Even though the guy she married is a jerk it still made me wish I was getting married. I don't think we can get rid of this feeling. We just have to try and not let it get us down. Our time will come hopefully soon. Its not a good thing to rush into marriage. Forcing a guy that isn't ready can lead to a failed marriage. So try and be patient and you will be the next bride-to-be that the girls will envy.

I think your man is probably right. I know that I went through a "wedding envy" phase during my sisters planning process. I think once the wedding is finally over you'll calm down. Accept that your man loves you and wants to marry you someday, but respect that he has your best interests at heart.

Yes, most women get wedding envy. It's an exciting time & you get a lot of attention.

The flip side? Most married women get single envy, so it works out evenly!

Wanting to support you financially is a weak excuse. You're already living together, so why is that an issue. Think about it, being married isn't going to cost him anymore than living with you. Sounds like he just doesn't want to get married.
