...I think most everyone will agree that breast-milk is best due in large part because it is "natural". Yet, the vast majority of parents who were so concerned with what was 'natural' in the beginning aren't as concerned as the child gets older. Instead of pushing organic foods, we think nothing of letting our kids eat processed junk. Why don't we continue encouraging natural stuff as our kids grow? Why and when does this fall off the radar for so many of us?

Just a question, folks, not trying to start a world war nor am I judging anyone. Remember, I don't push an all-natural lifestyle, either. This is just something I started thinking about...

breast milk, free. crappy processed food cheaper than healthy organic stuff. plus, it's easier to come by in a pinch. gotta think about the economics of things too. may be a good idea to do, but sometimes the money's not there.

Well here is the question...do you have kids? I am 23 and have a 2 year old boy (brenson). I don't do organic foods now, but did breast feed him until he was 10 months old. As he gets older I am not as worried about his health (dealing with foods) yes, i don't want him eating fatty foods all the time because fat babies grow up to be fat adults. No but seriously they did a study on it. Anywho....I breast him because when your child is a baby...that is the starting point of his life (yes i know obviously) and I wanted the best for him. A lot of things can go wrong with a baby up to a year. Anyway i could do help him develop the best that i could i did. now that he is older....he gets his nutrient, but come on ya gotta have a little fat. Plus, I don't want to eat organic food!

I see your point, but it's not only that breastmilk is all natural, because some moms are exposed to chemicals every day. It's that breastmilk contains a more balanced amount of nutrients for babies, and it's easier for them to digest. I breastfed both my kids (still breastfeeding # 2) and I encourage them to eat healthy foods also. Not always organic because organic foods are so pricey, but some things I buy are organic. I still buy the occasional bag of chips or cookies or I make brownies, but I try to incorperate more fresh foods into my family's diet. I think that's pretty common nowadays.

For me it all started out natural, and the older they got they got the home cooked meals as they still do. Pop was a treat once or twice a week as with junk food. However now that I have divorced, my ex feeds them nothing but junk and fast food. I hate it but the kids still love coming to my home for home cooked meals and don't mind that we rarely have pop. They learned over the years that homecooking and no junk is good and ok with them. They appreciate the home cooked meals more now than ever. And see now that Dad & step Mom are simply just lazy when it comes to cooking for them. ( they have to cook for themselves now while over there) Kids learn from their parents and usually make the best choice. (HOPEFULLY)

I agree we must consider our childrens eating habits until they are old enough to make healthy decisions I believe a lack of parenting is the cause for the rise in cases of juvenile diabetes, and overweight children. We give our kids a bag of Mcdonlds and sit them infont of the t.v then wonder why they're fat!

I think it's a matter of economics (price), taste (kids like sugary drinks), and availability (they don't serve juice or milk at most fast food restaurants). People are getting better, though, substituting juices for colas, but we still have the bad habit of drinking too many sugary and carbonated drinks.

I agree with one thing in life, i can't waist my money on baby food for six month after birth. It is good for very mum to give this milk to their baby for good six month just because it natural and it is well prepared for the baby. it is free from diseases and it makes the baby to grow well in a healthy form

You are very right. I think it has to do with the society we live in where most meals are quick meals, mothers are always pressed for time, and commercials are showing non-stop ads for processed sugar filled junk with a cartoon character pitch man.

I think breast milk is promoted for more reasons than it is "natural." A mother's milk also contains components that help build up the newborn's immune system and is digested more readily than formula.

I know from my standpoint..... my life is way too hectic! I do not watch what I eat like I should. If I had children, I would hope that I could do better...... but my life would be way more hectic and I'd probably fail miserably. I think that's the situation for many.
