Everytime my in-laws call long distance to talk to my husband, I am expected to talk to them one by one. I love them, but I am not used to that. I never know what to say, and I don't like spending alot of time on the phone. Lately, when I know it is them I find something to do to be busy, or find an excuse to run an errand. Should I be more patient?

No , sometimes our life consumes us and maybe your just not that interested in what they have to say or it's repetitious.

That sounds awful for you! I would tell her husband to say hi from you to them and leave it at that. Maybe talk to them once a month or something. Hope it gets better - I'm like you and really don't enjoy talking on the phone.

Hey, here's an idea - do they have email? If so, give them your email address and write back and forth with them - it's easier, quicker and you can write at your convenience.

you should do what you want while understanding this - every action has consequences. this is probably a very close family that likes to maintain its contacts. you are letting them know you don't want to be part of this. soon, you'll get your wish. just make sure it's what you really wanted.

You shouldn't have to talk to them if you don't want to. Let your husband know that you don't like to talk to them.

personally, i undestand u completely. i think you should make it clear, politely, that you just don't like communicating by the phone- that you think it's impersonal etc. Find good reasons and just tell them, then they'll understand and stop bothering you.
