This problem is for my sister (30 years), married and having 1 child. 8 years ago when she was in college, she was preparing to present somenthing in stage in front of her classmates and teachers she could'nt talk anything and frightened. She is telling after that she can't talk freely to anybody.(but to some close people she can) She feels trembling, shivering and sweating and her face also feels tight. She is teaching in a school now. In a strict surroundings she feels more problem. Attending a stage function is very difficult for her. If any time like that a situation occures she feels very nervous and afraid and the problem becomes more severe for her. She is doing yoga also. Is this a psychiatric problem? Is this a serious problem and need medication? or she can survive doing yoga and relaxation techniques? please advise.

I was diagnosed with "acute agoraphobia" and "severe depression" and had these symptoms and more. I was prescribed many pills, the last of them Zyprexa. I didn't take them. What helped was some therapy and a great support system, meaning: people who would not take "no" for an answer when it came to leaving the house and being social.
I am still, after three years, not completely over it, and put up a struggle occasionally, but once I get out and about, I realize that I've done this before, and I hadn't laid down and died then, and actually I'm having a good time after all. It's still wierd.

It sounds to me like she may be having panic attacks. There are actually so many different kinds of mental disorders, and I dont know her personally so I would hate to say for sure which one it is, but she definitely needs to go to a qualified doctor , because there are many kinds of medicines that can help her overcome it. I do hope she gets the help she needs, because there is help out there...you just have to ask for it. She should not be ashamed to ask for help in dealing with this, because she CAN overcome this.

Sounds to me that she may have some aspects of agoraphobia, a fear of crowds and crowded places. I suspect she may easily benefit from therapy with a psychologist or psychiatrist. I don't know that she'd be cured, but I'm fairly certain she could learn some coping skills. That's what those folks are for!

It's Social Anxiety Disorder, or Social Affective Disorder.
If she sees a Therapist (Dr), she can get meds for it.
