Ephedrine is the standardized extract and is safe when used as directed. Ephedra is not standardized and varies in strength. Ephedra has resulted in heart problems in death in people.

Ephedra is the plant that the ephedrine is extracted from.There are several different kinds of ephedrine though depending on the molecular attitude.
