yes, if you do 40 mintues every single day, and keep slowly increasing your speed, and do some incline for part of it, just make sure you dont gorge and eat like 5000 calories a day..

40 minutes is fine as long as you're also watching what you eat, like the first person said. And you don't really have to run on the treadmill, but you need to be walking fast. If you are not doing this all ready, work up to a speed of 4 mph. Lifting weights will help, too. The more muscle that you have, the more calories you will burn. Now, just a comment on the person that mentioned sit-ups, they will do nothing for your stomach if you don't do the cardio. You can do sit ups all day long, but if you don't burn the layers of fat that cover your stomach muscles, you will never have a flat stomach. The way to burn those layers is through cardio. Sorry, I just wanted to make that point. You're doing great, and depending on how much you want to lose, you should be exerising anywhere from 4-6 days a week. Good luck!

Are you walking on the treadmill? Running? Sweating? Those all factor into how well your routine will work. You also have to take a look at the amount of calories you consume. many people consume alot in alcoholic beverages or soda or any other beverage. Write everything you eat down, and the calories and fat per portion you ate. Find out if you are eating more than you are burning

Yes, a regular walking regimen is systemically beneficial. Also, if you are having difficulty shedding excess weight, see the link below to learn more about thyroid function and disorders. Hypothyroidism can cause the body to not burn enough calories and may affect your ability to lose weight. The walking routine is also good for your heart and lungs (circulatory and respiratory systems). A thyroid test is a blood test administered similarly to a cholesterol test (they take mine at the same time). The laboratory results will reveal if there are other factors preventing weight loss.

Trek on!

That's a good start. You should try sit ups, those really work for losing wait most of all in the stomach. I hope you are running in the treadmill everyday and not walking. You can go for a walk to but running is the best thing to get rid of fat.

As long as you are burning more calories over the course of the day than you are taking in on that day, yes. If you do 40 minutes and go to McDonalds for lunch and order a pizza for dinner, no, it isn't good enough.

Add some weight training in there. Muscle burns more calories than fat.
