We moved to Florida from Ohio about a month ago. Before we left Ohio our dog was updated with all his vaccinations, especially kennel cough. We have been here for about a month now and he has periodically been coughing (or clearing his throat?), has thrown up twice this week, once last week and is shredding like crazy. He is only 2 and has no interaction with other animals since we have been in Florida. The shedding I understand could be from the weather, but the periodic coughing and throw up is more than I have seen him do since we got him 2 years ago. Please note that the throw up is not anything but yellowish bile looking fluids. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Don't be too concerned. I left my dogs in the care of my neighbor for the weekend (she checked up on them and took them out while my husband was at work), and they were without me for a few days. When I returned, one of them was doing the same exact thing you were talking about. Dogs are smart. They can feel anxiety like we can. If you give a dog a little extra attention and pampering, it may help in solving the bile issue!

Make sure your dog isn't eating any grass. Our dogs up in Ohio sometimes eat way too much grass and have throw up that is just like your dog's. You would think grass would be in the vomit but most of the time it's not. Make a vet appointment within the week and your dog should be fine.

Our dog throws up when he drinks too much water too fast. Sometimes it's a little colored but never really yellow. If he's used to cooler tempertatures in Ohio maybe he's drinking a lot, but I would think that wold have happened when you first got there not now, Sorry, I couldnt help more. I'd take him to a vet. Maybe there was some germ/disease in the house when you moved in.

To know what breed he is would be helpful, but my first impression..is he protected from heartworm?
Is he a toy breed that is subject to trachea problems?
I have a young dog that eats strange things, and I have no idea where they come from..like blown in on the wind or something..He will act like that for a few days, and then up comes a milk jug lid, or an undigested piece of bone...once it was a peach pit..

I would think that your dog needs a vet's diagnoses..

You won't be sorry if yu take him in, but you might be sorry if you don't.

Next time your dog is outside, watch your dog. Check to see if he is eating grass. That is probably what is causing the coughing and gagging. Grass is stuck in his throat. He's throwing up, but the grass is still stuck.
Eating grass is an early symptom of worms.
Visit the vet.

I suggest you call the vet, if it continues. My Lhasa was doing the same thing for a week and I took her to the vet she had pancreatis and was very sick. I had to only give her water for 24 hrs then rice to eat and water for another 24 hrs. had to repeat this for 4 days until she was better. It could just be an upset stomach but Id have it checked just in case.

Has the dog been able to poo and pee during this time? If not, it could be kidney stones. You should take it to the vet ASAP.

I am no expert, I would only recommend you call the vet and list his symptoms...they'll know if it is a severe thing, or normal adjustment..Good Luck!
