"Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?" Could you please tell me what these verses mean? (I have repeatedly noticed many claiming that Christians are not suspose to judge one another,ie, use discernment.) What does the above scriptures mean to you? Thanks

Once you become a Christian, you essentially become a saint. I know, I thought it was crazy too until I was referred to the following verses:
PHILIPPIANS 4
21 Salute every SAINT in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.
EPHESIANS 2
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the SAINTS, and of the household of God;

Go to www.godsview.com and pull up "saints." You will be amazed what comes up.

Anyhow, back to your question. Don't think that you are unworthy to judge the smallest thing. Later, you will be called upon to judge the angels...the fallen ones.

We are supposed to love the sinner but hate the sin. We can try to guide our brothers and our sisters back to where they need to be lovingly. We CAN judge the sin.

Keep in mind, with knowledge comes responsibility.

1 Cor 6:1-6: Paul teaches how the congregation should handle smaller problems between believers. Society has set up a legal system where disagreements can be resolved in courts. But Paul declares that disagreeing Christians should not have to go to a secular court to resolve their differences. As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ, so why should we turn to those who lack Gods wisdom? Because of all that we have been given as believers, and because of the authority that we will have in future to judge the world and the angels, we should be able to deal with disputes among ourselves. The saints are believers. See John 5:22 and Revelation 3:21 for more on judging the world. Judging angels is mentioned in 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6.

I will try to help here... ......

Lets start with 1 corinth. 6 ;2-3
verses 1-8 in this chapter are referring to the problem of litiigation in heathen courts......

verse 2......the saints will judge the world. because of our union with Christ, we will bw associated with Him in this judgement, (during the millennium ) see Matthew19:28
We will also judge Angels...( verse 3; see second Peter2:4,9 and Jude 6

These scriptures are referring to the judgement of the world during the millennium(Christs reign on earth after the end of this system of things)
People who have been taken up from this world will stand in judgement of their peers.(we do that every day in court houses )
people should not judge one another , this is referring to every day life...example: ...The Jon Benet Ramsey case.people, the news, cops ,all thought the parents killed Jon Benet..Now look at the news .There has been a break in the case and someone has been arrested..Now...Do we judge the man that was arrested ? Do we get into a frenzy and pass judgement on him? NO....we wait until he is in court and a JURY (these people determine the guilt or innocence of the accused, the presiding judge just applies the law and pronounces sentence) All this to say , people are always judgeing others when we don't know the truth.and even with the truth we are supposed to allow the court system deal with these problems. Judgement of others has brought about horrible genocides in this world .the scripture is referring to people ( the jury ) who will be assessing the guilt of others in the End Times.nothing more....
The discernment you are talking also is important for each one of us needs to have the facts (the jury ) to determine the guilt or innocence of others.
It's not easy to be on a jury..you get picked by a long process , and even though you may be called to jury duty ,that doesn't mean that you will sit on the jury....theres something special about being called to sit in judgement and it carries a great responsibility....So .....we are not to judge lest we be judged with the same intensity as we have to judge others.......

Hope this helped...............

In the infant church there often were civil disputes that would arise between christians. The christians were encouraged to resolve matters amoung themselves without taking each other to court where someone could be thrown into jail.

This did not mean that they couldn't take the other to civil court, just that they were encouraged to take the dispute to the church first where less damage might be able to take place.

Where the Bible calls us not to judge those verses are refering to judging the value of a person - is one person better or worse than myself. Doing so serves no purpose other than building up my pride which ends in disaster and tearing down the esteem of another.

Well the Christian is a person still in humanity that believes in Christ and so has obtained a pass to the after life, to be used upon death. Notice that the verse is in future tense. These things will come about after what is called "glorification" or the reception of our glorified body that is no longer corrupt.

Philippians 3:12
"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."

1 Cor 15
42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 6
4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

It speaks to the church. And the church should have judges to judge between member of the church and member of the church.

That it is a shame that a man can not be found with in the church that is able to judge.
And yes if you judge you shell be judged as you judged! It is a warning to the judges.

as far as unbeliever is concerned just look at the 9th circus and the clowns there of!

God has given Christians the tools to accurately judge between right and wrong. the saints will judge the world, and in the end they will be above the angels, and able to judge them. Since we are given this authority, we are clearly able to diecern between right and wrong right now. Christians are to judge, and many people don't realize that.

(we are not able to judge some things right now, like who is going to heaven or hell, but we are to judge what is right and what is wrong.)

I think the general idea is that someday we'll have to decide ('judge' not not necissarily have to mean 'judge' in the way you're thinking) on things hugely important, and we will have to know in our hearts what is right and wrong (in order to 'judge') so if we have to be able to 'judge' in matters that are so far away and removed from us right now, it's much more important to know right from wrong and be able to judge matters in our own life right now. The issue of 'judging angels' and so forth is metaphorical.

Paul is referring to the Final Judgement where the righteous will be able to judge angels - whether man or supernatural beings.

Paul states that man has the capacity to judge earthly matters, NOT people.

I will share this commentary in my NIV Study Bible.

(I myself think that this verse is talking about end times judgment and those who are with Christ will judge with him).

Commentary: "Believers are in some way to participate in judging the world. Because of spiritual union with Christ, to whom God has committed all judgment, believers share His work with Him. Furthermore, there is to be participation in judging angels. Most likely the reference is to disobedient angels, such as are mentioned in Jude 6. Compare 2 Peter 2:4.

Amillennialists, post-millennialists, and historical premillennialists generally interpret this judging to come about through the power of Christ-like living, which will judge and convict evil. Dispensational premillennialist generally believe the reference applies to the end time in various ways."
