Your stomach has two sheets of muscle that are joined in the middle. In some people, including me, the pressure of the baby can 'unzip' the muscles from each other (this is called diastasis recti). If this happens, your stomach cannot be flat again unless the muscles are surgically repaired, because no matter how strong your abdominal muscles are, they can no longer hold in your belly because they do not meet in the middle. (I got mine surgically repaired, by the way). If you do not have this condition, exercise can tighten your abdominal muscles again. In which case, the only residual would be your stretch marks, if you have any. Also, the hormones of pregnancy loosen the ligaments of your pelvis, so your hip measurements / pants size may never be the same even if you go back to pre-pregnancy weight.

Sometimes...
I remember the jello belly feeling. Some people are very unlucky, and the skin never really goes away. I went to post birth exercise classes that were run by physiotherapists. My stomach went back to normal. The trick is getting enough exercise while not overdoing it in the early days. It is best to go to special classes.
The jelly-like feeling goes away, but for some people there is excess skin that will not go away after losing all of the excess fat etc. I think that these people either live with the situation, or have the excess skin removed surgically.

I had a baby five months ago. My stomach went back down very quickly, in about 1 month. I breastfeed, however, and that helped a lot. Also, I ate pretty healthy while I was pregnant. Lots of fruits and veggies. I gained about 30 healthy pounds. BUT, although my tummy went down and is just about flat, it doesn't look the same. Not sagging skin or anything, it's just softer now. No more six pack. I suppose I could work out, but my priority is my daughter now, and she's sooooo much more fun than doing crunches. :)

This depends on your body. Some women walk out of the hospital never looking like they've ever been pregnant. My friend still looked pregnant after she had her son. I end up somewhere inbetween. Yes you need to exercise afterward. It's going to take a while to get things back to where they belong, and it's not fun, but it's something that has to be done if you want to look "normal" again. Another good way to lose excess poundage is to breast feed. It burns calories better than running 5 miles a day. Good luck to you!

No, in fact, it takes at least 6 weeks for your uterus to go all the way back down to normal as well, so for a few weeks, you may look like you are 5 months pregnant. Then after your 6 weeks post partum visit, you can start exercizing and rebuild the muscle tone you lost during pregnancy.

It will be loose right after you have the baby, you have to work out and tighten back the muscles and the skin! Use cocoa butter to reduce the risk of stretch marks!

It will never go back 100% but it will go down for the most part. You can exercise to try to flatten it up as much as possible.

Like everyones said, it depends. After my daughter mine is somewhat back. But it seems after you have a baby its alot harder to stay inshape. You have to work 100% extra hard at it. It never goes back to exacly what you looked like pre baby. But if you work hard on it it will look better that not
