mines the mig jets

F-14 Tomcat. Bar none, one of the best fighters ever built. Icredible weapons payload, long range, blazing speed, not the most manuverable, but in a dog fight it can kick on the afterburnners, out run his opponent, turn and fire an air to air munition and destroy opponent from a distance. I'm going to miss that bird once they are all de-commed.

Which MiG? There are about a dozen different jets...

I've always liked the F-15. Its size and appearance are very intimidating, and when it leaves the area, everyone knows.

Also like the Saab Viggen. I'm sure they're probably out of service by now, but what a beautiful plane.

As a kid, I really liked the F-104, but I don't know how effective that plane would would have been in a dogfight--it's basically a jet-powered missile.

F-16 and F-14

The JSF and the F-16 are my favorite.

They are the only two aircraft in the world that are cerified to 9G's with full fuel and weapons loads at any altitude.

The JSF and the F-16 are also the only aircraft ever to have a radar that can be in gound attack and air attack mode at the same time.

The JSF also is the first aircraft with cameras located around the aircraft that automatically alert the pilot to aircraft in any direction. It also has a system where the flight suit vibrates directionally to alert the pilot to the direction of the ground and the dircetion of other aircraft.

F-22. Thrust Vector Control is awesome. It looks like it can stop in mid air and turn around and kill Migs.

The F-14 Tomcat and not because of Top Gun.

As a weapon, it was marvelous. With the AWG-9 radar and Phoenix missile, it could track targets hundreds of miles away and shoot them without ever being seen. The Phoenix was a Mach 5 missile.

With that armament on board, the Tomcat could rule the sky.

The variable geometry wings were cool too and they landed on carriers.

What more could you ask for?

The A-4 Skyhawk & the FA-18 Hornet.

I might be a little prejudiced though. Those were my babies when I was an ADJ in the USN. More currently, my eye has been on the Raptor. That looks like one *sweet* bird.
