I'm going to Santa Cruz for bodyboarding this weekend and was deciding on whether to get one of those thin rash guards, or the thicker wetsuit-like tops. Will the water be so cold that I would need a wetsuit?

I forgot to add, will I be okay with just the top, or do I need the bottoms too? I think they have just tops right?

I am a surfer and i used to live in san jose and i can honestly say you will need a wetsuit in the water. If you dont wear a wetsuit you will get sick like me the first time i tried without a suit. I turned a nice blue color.

Yes, it's fairly cold even in the summer. I would recommend a wetsuit.
