The swelling and itching is still there from the bite, but now the mastoid bone which sits beneath the bite is swollen and hurts a little. Is this serious enough to go to the doctor?

You probably have been stung by a bee or wasp. The swelling in the bone is typical because of the proximity to the bone-being so close to the surface. Just give it a few days and it will go away. Obviously you are not allergic to bee/wasp stings or you would have had a reaction by now.

Do you have fever? Is the bite not responding to at home treatment like an itch cream? Is the swelling so bad you can't turn your head? Can you hear OK? Is it infected? If your answer is yes to any of these questions then a visit may be necessary, but if you aren't dead yet it isn't going to kill you. Try come hydrocortizone cream at home before blowing $75.00 at the doctor's office.

i would, and let me tell you why... it's been on the news that there is staph infection that people are getting and they start out thinking that a spider or something has bitten them, so, to be on the safe side, i'd have it checked, my sister in law thought a spider or bug bit her and it turned out to be a staph infection, can come by contact, shaking hads, using the same towel, that sort of thing....

if it's continually getting worse or starting to make a funny shape then yes, you should see the doctor. Put some cortizone cream on it and see if that helps.

it was probably a huge mosquito if u have those up there.
if u dont have huge mosquitoes, i am sorry, i dont know.
