Sounds like he likes you as a friend. He may not want to jeopardize the friendship. Or maybe he does have a g/f or at least someone in mind he wants as a g/f.
Although, they do say that in male-female friendships there is always some kind of attraction. I believe it.
Be his friend if you want to be, if you only like him in a b/f way move on, leave him alone, his opinion might change if he finds out he won't have you around all the time. He may have an attraction to you but since he knows you'll still be around without the complicated b/f-g/f relationship he'll just keep it a friendship.

dont have to think negative .. even though it might be true .. i dont know the whole situation but on poitive side he might be a real good guy .. and he has been just afraid that if u know that he has a gf then u may not talk .. i know, that is wrong .. why cant he be more open .. but then he is a guy .. most of the guys are stupid and most of the times its coz they just keep over analyzing things .. but anyway, he might like u and want to be your friend .. and when u indicated that u want him to be more than a friend then he is actually doing a favor by telling u the truth .. if he wanted he could have told u a lie and accepted u .. so, before u jump to conclusion, think about it and he might be your next best friend .. someone who is honest and who doesnt want to hurt u .. i hope he becomes more open with u so that u dont feel that he is hiding something ..

Saying you have a girlfriend is a way that guys use to be nice about letting you down. He likes you too much to want to say something mean or that will hurt you, so saying he has a girlfriend is his way of keeping things as they are.OR, he really could have one. Either way, you may to move on

either he does have a girlfriend or he has serious problems with women or maybe he's in the closet. either way- it's clear that he's not interested.
of course he likes you- he's your friend. he's just not attracted to you like that.
if you think you can hold on to the friendship and you think you can live with that, then fine. if not, move on.
in the meantime, look around for a new guy to crush on. surely he can't be the only stud in town?

I guess that I will have to be the voice of hope.... AGAIN....
It doesn't mean that he doesn't like you. I have asked a girl that, and... you know what... I don't even care anymore about anything, so why am I answering questions on this site...?
I'm sorry that I could not come to your aid... Forgive me...

maybe he didn't have a girlfriend or didn't want to answer you when you first asked.
It depends on how he said it, his tone did it sound disappointed or did it say it with a normal tone.

He doesn't want to hurt your feelings. But, I do think you should respect the girlfriend and lay off.
