Chinese food (the way Americans eat it) is very high in calories. It has a lot of sugar and thickenings in the sauces. Your best bet is to eat the veggies and not to thick sauced entrees. Also, don't forget, the egg rolls and many of the dim sum are deep fried. The Chow mein has a lot of fat in it, as does the fried rice.

Chinese food, unless you get steamed vegetables with chicken and no sauce generally is not good for your health.
A dish like Kung Pao Chicken will generally have roughly 1,000 calories (that's a low estimate)
The rice (your average medium size) has 600 calories.
Get a fried dish with sauce like General Tso and you might as well go eat two big-macs from McDonalds, since it contains a day and a half worth of fat.
If that's all you eat all day, you're ok. But if you're eating that and a couple other full meals, it won't help your waistline shrink.

The base of Chinese food is not fatty or high in calories. Chicken and vegetables and rice are actually very good for you. The contents of calories and fat depends on how the food is prepared. A lot of Chinese food is deep fried in oil, this make the food fatty. I you stick to Chinese food that is not greasy you should be OK. Just plain vegetables and rice.

it depends on what youre ordering.
check out this website www.calorie-count.com it holds almost every chinese dish imaginable, that way you know exactly what youre eating. It tells you calories, fat, protein, carbs, sodium, and even grades the level of nutrion but be advised that unless you go up to the cook and ask him what he put into the food nothing is right on the dot!

It depends what you order and how much of it you eat. For instance, sweet and sour pork has way more calories than steamed broccoli because the pork is fried in oil, but if you eat two bites of the pork you are consuming fewer calories than if you ate all of the broccoli.
