The sciatic nerve arises from the lower back. It becomes inflamed when there is pressure applied to the nerve at that level, with its accompanying swelling of the nerve and the sheath. If the problem is not corrected, the body will continue to adapt and change its configuration, with those changes progressing further up the spine.

A little sciatica maybe. Try sleeping on your stomach a couple of nights. That helps me sometimes when mine flares up.

I believe it's a pinched nerve that causes this.
