The definition of pride is
noun: unreasonable and inordinate self-esteem (personified as one of the deadly sins)

noun: the trait of being spurred on by a dislike of falling below your standards

noun: a feeling of self-respect and personal worth

noun: satisfaction with your (or another's) achievements

So everyone who says that their religion is the right religion or their god is the best and only god is commiting this sin. That is if they do it in a boastful manner, such as trying to convert or looking down on someone or putting too much emphasis on it. Also if they do not keep a humble outlook towards other religions.

The 7 sins are listed in the Bible under Proverbs 6:16-19:
for any Christian who wants to deny it is in their scripture.

What is your take on this? I just want your opinion without the bashing please. I would like to hear from both sides of this.

Actually, Dearheart, that's a very good question. I think that the Sins are to be taken into account like everything else that's being overused. One can be pridefull yet not "full of themselves" or overbearingly so. It's sort of like Lust. Lust is great but too much of it becomes tedious (especially if you're on the receiving end...whew) Otherwise, I'm indulging in a small bit of greed (a half pound Symphony bar...yum......)

Yes. Pride is a sin and pride in one's religion is no exception. It is religious hubris which is the source of the war in the middle east and has caused haulocausts, genocides, and religious pogroms, Inquisitions, and exterminations.

Unfortunately, those who renounce religion are often even worse. Compare Ancient Roman Pagans (persecution of Christians and Jews including crucifictions) to Stalinist Russia, 60 million Jews and Gypsys exterminated and exiled. Compare the Catholic Conquistadores, (exterminated Native Americans by the thousands) and Ir-religious Communist Chinese--Exterminated 600 million Chinese people since 1970s and Pol Pot's Cambodia, exterminated 5 out of every six Cambodians during "Killing Fields" era following America's withdrawal from Vietnam.

Additionally, consider potential the religious slaughter of Sunni Moslems by Shia Muslims and vice versa compared to African colonialism for profit and the slave trade.

While extreme pride and arrogance is the source of all this misery it seems to make little difference whether that pride is based on religion, race, economic status, education levels or physical height. Remember Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda were all racially Black, but they exterminated each other because one race was physically taller than the other.

No bashing, I am a Christian, and firmly believe in my god. I don't believe that I am have the franchise on heaven, because I believe a far greater being than I makes that decision. Being a Christian shouldn't be about boasting and pointing fingers, it should be about living a life of morals, such as not lying, stealing, killing(unless you are defending your home and family, or country) and recognizing that none of us are perfect. The bible says plainly not to try to remove the mote out of your brother's eye without first removing the beam from your own eye so that you can see more clearly! I for one believe everybody has the right to choose their own religious convictions and I will leave the judging to somebody more qualified than me...cuz i am not anywhere near perfect....

The 7 deadly sins aren't. None of the "Seven deadly sins" are bad, unless taken to an extreme. The same can be said of the "Seven Cardinal Virtues. They are also bad if taken to extreme.

As an example, take "pride". It is good to have some pride in yourself and your accomplishments. Without it, you would not be motivated to do anything. Of course, too much is also a bad thing.

Christianity (as well as other religions) love to paint everything in black and white. This just isn't true in real life. Everything is mostly grey. There is no ultimate evil or ultimate good. There are just people living their lives as they see fit. Of course, religions don't want you to think that way because it won't fill their pews.

there's a huge difference in egocentric pride, it truly is what the sin is concerning and pride in a interest properly carried out or your united states. So, no, Marines should not be seen sinners for pride. Killing is sinful in spite of the reality that, so in case you kill, Marine or not, you're a sinner.

Pride in yourself is a sin. Pride is undue self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention and honor and sets oneself in competition with God.

The opposite of pride is humility. Humility is the acknowledgment that all we have and all we accomplish is God's work not ours.

Pride in things like your religion, your heritage, your nation, and your children are just being thankful for gifts from God. These are not the sin of pride.

With love in Christ.

from the dictionary it says:quality or state of being proud, indulge in pride. just remember what you read in the bible is just from that book and not from the dictionary that has the true meanings of words.

yes. Jesus often rebuke the pharisees, calling them hyppocrites because they would boast about their religion. they wore garmentns and jewelerry and headdresses that made it clear to everyone who they were. And jesus calld them a brood of vipeprs lol.
The bible tells us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought.
