I just think british people think that they are very good in english when they really can't even say the word clearly especially in Black County, I'm just wondering why they call their language english when they just murmur, what do you think?

yeah i know i really think british english is really really crap well, they just trying to copy americans anyway, they are trying too hard using slang and it ended up in a mess like, i went to england and gosh their language is really appalling like "where am you goin?" hello where did they learn this "am" instead of "are", "i'm goin to learn you to drive" instead of "i'm going to teach you how to drive" it is really a big difference between american english and british english. British englis is really crap, they think they're posh i think they have to polish their english well instead of thinking they are posh!!!!

There are more dialects of English in England than dialects in any other country in the world. All dialects are understood by those who grow up in that area, but each dialect changes the language. I live in the North East of England and the changes in dialect vary hugely within just a few miles.

The Geordie accent is the most recognisable accent in the area but the Sunderland accent is quite different and it's only about 5 miles away. The Ashington accent, 8 miles from Newcastle, is difficult for Geordies to understand. If you follow the coast up it becomes more and more similar to Scottish the closer to Scotland you get.

The Black Country accent is just another dialect, locals understand it other UK people struggle with it a little, if you want to find Queen's English and say it's good English you need to look at class before area. Many dialects are easier to understand than others but all of them are English.

I think quite honestly for an American, who seems to struggle to write a legible question in English, to find fault with the English spoken anywhere in England is laughable. Even computer software writers have learnt to distinguish between English and American English. Dialects alter English because they tend to slide words together or create a word explain a meaning, American changes the language through laziness - Aluminium is the same throughout the world, Americans drop a "U", is it really that difficult to pronounce it correctly?

British people speak in many different dialects, English is a language shared by many countries too. I'm English and also British, people that weren't born here are British but not English. Before anyone jumps on me, if I was born in Wales, I'd be Welsh and British, but not English. English is a language that evolves all the time, so it's hard to say what is good English.

Sorry to say that your English is quite difficult to understand! Standard English is known as Oxford English, but various areas of the British Isles have very distinct accents, some stronger than others. People listening to those from the Black COUNTRY (around the Birmingham area) may well have trouble catching every word until they get used to the accent, but if you think that's difficult, you should listen to those from Liverpool, Newcastle and some areas of Wales and Scotland!! Basically though, the English is fine (most of the time), and the regional accents help make the UK such an interesting country! If you want to hear correct English, listen to the news broadcasts on BBC World.

I'm British and not all of us are good at speaking English- it depends on where you live and your accent. If you go in to central London then your sure to come across many posh speaking British people who use the correct grammar. On the other side there's other areas like the east end in London where the grammar is more slang and not up to scratch. I would say my English is fine because I speak clearly with a London accent. Our language is English because this is the birth place of English, although its going down hill a bit i.e. being degraded by kids known as chavs who don't want to learn the correct way of speaking it.

I'm British and I have never heard any one say they're good at English just because they are British! I've never heard anyone say "where am you going" either, unless is some sort of dialect. As for the "murmur" different people have different accents and it isn't just limited to people in Britain. I don't mean to sound bitchy but I also find your question slightly offensive seeing as your skills in English aren't very good.

before i deem to comment on your question, i presume you're going to go away and correct your diction and punctuation, and then you can work on the grammar.

and the mumblings are dialects, local speech patterns, so dont be so ignorant, im pretty sure wherever you hail from, its the same language, with regional variation. and before you get all cocky, and gobby, remember, we're the mother country, your language began on these shores, spoken by your long dead relatives.

England is the sovereign nation. English is the national language. great britian is the socioeconomic conglomeration of four seperate nations. England Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. the British Empire owned more territory and land than anyone else at any time. and we slaughtered more people over the centuries than anyone else... so stop wondering. now you know.

To be perfectly honest i do think it depends where in Britain you visit. Yes, the Black Country(Birmingham,Wolverhampton,Dudley etc) do have a different accent just like different regions of every country do. I am from just outside of the Birmingham area and whenever i travel abroad, people say i sound 'posh'! I think its very small minded to say that all British murmur! Prehaps if you visited Britain, you will find out for yourself.

It May be called English but it was the Anglo-Saxons and the Romans from which the majority of the language was created from. So they can butcher it sometimes too with all the new words and slang which have been added since the begining.
