I know very little about computers...but a friend bought a used computer for his daughter and wants me to erase the files before I send it to her...I am nervous about deleting something that will affect the programs or worse delete a program..in the Real One Player..in library when I delete a song...it asks if I want to delete it from hard drive....should I say yes.....also there is some files in library marked "U13FE" and are called wave files...they appear to be instructions for windows or something but are only in audio.....though when you listen the instructions apparently are for visual viewing...is it safe to delete them too...Thanks

deleting songs from your computer is okay if you don't want them anymore.
.wav files are just an audio format file, which is ok to delete as well.

My advice when deleting is only delete what you are absolutely sure you can. As you use a computer more, you'll learn what are and are not necessary for a computer to survive.

If the PC has Windows XP, simply go to the control panel via the Start Menyon the botton left of the screen. Once you are in the control panel, simply double click on the "Users" icon. Here you can create a new user. Once you have created a new user (with administrative priviliges) then log off the PC and log back in under the new user you have just created. Now repeat the same steps to go to the Users panel and delete all the other users that are no longer needed....this will safely delete all the data that has been added to the PC by each individual user in the past.

Stay away from anything but Program Files, and you should be all right. Most of the most sensitive files are under windows, but there may be components in Documents and Settings. The Program Files and maybe pictures in My Pictures should do it.

I suggest that you just format the computer. If it has windows 98 get a disk and reformat it if it is windows xp do the same thing in system tools and restore the system.
