Blood does not turn old in your body. You are probably bleeding less and the period is almost over. As the blood flow slows it dries. You go through the cycle every month to prepare you for the next month to conceive if that is what you want.

My period starts brown, eventually works its way to red, then back to brown. I think it's just old blood that's been exposed to air for a while.

No. It is not old blood. It is called oxidation. When blood comes into contact with air it may turn brown. Change your pad more often.

When you check your pad and you see brown blood, that means that it is blood left that is older. The blood that is more red in color is newer. I don't think it means anything, but if you are still concerned or having other symptoms, contact your doctor ASAP!!

It is old blood. It is the ending of your period, and it is acutally a mixture of blood and your natural lubricant that you have. It is normal for most people. It usually last means that you are on your last day or last days of your period.

fitting to stop or its getting close to stopping.

Yes, it is. When you are coming off of your period your body self cleans itself. That's what the leftover blood is.

Iron makes blood red I think. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But I'm pretty sure this involves contact with oxygen.
