I really want to believe in some type of God. I want to start going to church, but I don't know which one. I've been an agnostic all my life. Which church do you like best and why? I know nothing about any religion, and so I'm pretty embarassed to start at a new church. What do I say or do when I get there?

Oh honey....

You can't just start believing in something because you feel like it. Thats like someone saying, "you know, today I feel like believing in flying moose." If you don't honestly believe in it, it won't be real. What you should do, is begin exploring. Explore how feel on life, yourself, everything. Think of some controversial issues. What are your stand points? Do you believe in evolution or creation? or hey - evolution by creation.

You cannot simply wake up one morning and say "I really want to believe in God." It has to come from somewhere within, and not by asking people what they believe.

I think your quest is wonderful, and good luck to you. Try everything until you find what is right for you.

How a church treats you is a pretty good indication of whether or not you want to go to the church. I would phone around, as tomeet the pastor in advance to ask some questions. What you ask is not really all that important, you will get a feel for the man by how he answers, if he treats you with anything less than respect and love, keep looking. Another good place to start is The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, an exceptional book, a narrative by a man who was once an athiest, and through extensive research became a believer. Oh, and most important, before you do any thing, you might try just being quiet, and telling God you want to give him a try, and will he please direct you? He is looking forward to helping you out with this.

Try the Unitarians or the United Church of Christ. Both are very open and good groups. I'm Episcopalian, but we have some spotty dioceses now that want to go back to the dark ages. If you are intersted in non-Christian religion as well, I would recommend Reform Judaism from a Jewish tradition -- and if you like the idea of a goddess rather than a god -- I recommend the Covenant of the Goddess or the Correllian Tradition of Wicca.

Be in love, there is nothing else. Good luck, I hope this helps.

PS Having read your addendum -- I strongly recommend either the Unitarians or either Wiccan tradition I noted. You could also try North American Spiritualism (I've added their website) but I think you will be happiest with Wicca or maybe the Unis.

I like the Seventh Day Adventist Church the best, because they are the only church that teaches prophecy from the book of Daniel and Revelation. They have a great understanding of the time in which we live in, and how we should be preparing our hearts for Jesus' 2nd coming. If you come to the church in Costa Mesa, CA.just walk right up to the first person you see and say "hi,i'm new here today.Could you please tell me about the services?" And i'm sure you will be just fine, everyone is very nice and helpful. If you dont live local to this church, but want to check out something really cool,go to amazingfacts.com. There you can take free online bible studies,as well as get some free materials without feeling obligated.

A Pentecostal church would be a good choice. (Also known as the Assemblies of God) There are other independent charismatic churches that are good as well, but since you do not know the Word very well I suggest that you at least start here so you can learn. All you have to do is just plan to go one Sunday, have everything ready the night before so the devil cannot tempt you with an excuse not to go, cause he will. When you get there sit next to some nice looking family and tell them you would like to know Jesus, and learn as much as you can. They will help you.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life...

The choice has to be your own, as you know. Don't be embarrassed, or shy. You are going to worship, not impress anyone. So if they asked you why you are at their church, reply "I am here at God's church to worship him" Each church has their own ideas. Check each, you can go and just listen to what they have to say and see what their beliefs are? You will know what is right for you. When you get to the right church, you will have a feeling of home. Like it is where you are suppose to be. I had Baptist parents, Assembly of God Grandparents, and most of my friends are Catholic, and I was great growing up with a mixture of religion. Good luck to you and go with God.

Well, no one can really tell you what church to go to but we can look at the facts. I myself am a Methodist and I have very Catholic beliefs, so my advice to you is to try a Catholic Church out. The Catholic Church is historically the church that Jesus Christ established while he was on this Earth and every Christian Church is split from it. There were lots of men who disagreed with the Catholic Church so they left that church and started their own. I like the Methodist Church because i was raised as a Methodist and it is most comfortable for me but i think the most important thing is to find a church that you agree with and feel comfortable in. You can call a Catholic Church and set up a meeting with the preist. Any other church you woudl make an appointment with the minister. At the appointment just explain to them that you are interested in learning more about Christianity and you are interested in becoming one. Good luck, stay strong!

Don't be embarrassed. Kudos for seeing the truth, or at least trying to find it at last. Find a church where you feel love. Trust me, you will know it when you feel it -- it cannot be described, it is that powerful. That is the church to attend.

Also, talk with the pastor beforehand. Go questioning, but not challenging. The former is seeking, the latter is combative and will get you nothing. Have the pastor explain things to you. Again, you will know when you have found the right one.

Good luck, bless you, and peace be with you always!

Im a Christian Jesus really does love you. Have you ever felt lonely or empty or like there is something more to life? People used to tell me that God filled that empty spot in there hearts but since I had fallen away from God I thought they were lying but he really does fill the empty spot he loves you no matter what you do or no matter what happens he created you. God Bless You and Jesus loves You. I'm praying for you.
Oh for the part you just added yes I believe in Judgement day and in heaven I believe in One God and that he had a son and that he loved us so much he sent his son to die for us. I believe in the Bible. If you want to learn more you can contact me or read the book of John in the Bible try New Testament Version (its easier to understand). God Bless You and I'm praying for you right now and so are my friends

You dont have to say or do anything. Religion is a big important choice, try out different denominations. One week attend catholic church, the next lutheran, after that try presbyterian, and so on. Find the church and religion that suits your life the best. I believe in God but I do not attend church and was never baptized. I believe that God know he is in my heart and that the attendance of church has no bearing on my getting into heaven or my devotion to God, but everyone is different. Good luck in your search.
