well, my first question is....
what are you giving him to drink??
my reason is that some drinks can actually dehydrate people instead of hydrate them. so, if you are giving him water or straight juice (apple, orange, grape, etc) or pedialyte, then i would discuss this with his pediatrician. he may have an elctrolyte imbalance causing his "thirst".
if you are giving him kool-aid, soda or other sugary beverages, then he is probably still thristy b/c:
--the drink tastes really good and he wants more b/c of taste not out of dehydration.
--the drink contains sugar and caffeine which act as diuretics (sp?) and are dehydrating him more than hydrating him.
so, it's most likely what you're giving him or an imbalance in his system......or it could be that he is just REALLY thirsty. does he play hard all the time?? if so, then he is probably really thirsty.
i drink approximately 64+oz of water a day....if you really sit down and think about how much that is....well, it's a pretty good amount, and i work in an office all day. i'm sure i'd be drinking even more if i was a really active 3 year old!!
take care.

Before I was diagnosed with Type 1 Insulin-Dependant Diabetes Mellitus, I was always peeing, always thirsty (I could drink 10 glasses of water and it wouldn't put a dent in my thirst), always hungry (it is different for some people but a typical sign of hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar.) It wouldn't hurt to take him to the doctor. I was going into a diabetic ketoacidosis, which is an untreated form of IDDM (I didn't know I had it yet), and I had to get airlifted out. The doctor said that if I hadn't went and got help when I did, I would have gone into a diabetic coma or even died.

You say he is drinking it in 2 or 3 gulps, So I am assuming you are giving him about 1/4 to about 1/2 of a cup at a time.
If he is urinating a lot, and drinking more than eating, I would have him checked for Juvenille Diabetes.
I would also have him checked for an electrolyte imbalance,
His body may be trying to get things back in order.
If this is the case, normally some pedialyte or another brand of childrens electrolyte replacement drink should do the trick.
My 6 yr old is the same way, she drinks ALL the time, I had her checked, and nothing is wrong with her, she plays harder than normal, so she has a tendency to get slightly dehydrated faster than her sisters.
If you notice him outside playing, and he is drinking a lot, but not sweating or crying tears or urinating, Get him to the drs office ASAP!
This can be a sign of heat stroke or severe dehydration.

Wow my daughter did the same when she turned 3yrs old and I think that's normal the are much active and they just tend to be thirsty but try giving him water some times because there bodies are way different from ours. And i think that is great that your telling him no more juicy juice.Because it will make then very active and they wont keep still so.Water and try maybe sugar free or light products.

Are you giving him only water when he is thirsty like that? Right now its summer, so his body uses up alot of water through out the day. Just keep giving it to him till he stops asking. And check with your doctor about how much water is too much. It sounds silly, but it is possible to over-hydrate.

MY little girl is hooked on baby juice she is two, and drinks nearly a bottle a day and it is not cheap either. I should not worry to much as some kids prefer to drink rather than eat. My daughter does not eat much at all so as long as she drinks plenty that is good for me, just wet nappies all the time

First what are you giving him to drink. With it being summer he might need alot of water. I'd still take him to the doc to be checked though.

He could be getting too much salt/ sodium in his diet or he could have diabetes. get him to the dr for a check up as soon as you can.
