Agnostic here, don't want to change anyones religion.

I have seen today a few people who say that evolution is false and the work of the devil. I respectfully ask then why have humans uncovered various artifacts that lead many to believe in a Theory of Evolution (not a fact, I understand). Just as an example, I read in the September 2006 Discover that there is a 75 million year old Dinosaur that had bone cancer and it shows up in an xray. The oldest homo sapien is according to what we have found 300,000 years old. Creationist belief as I understand it is that there was no sickness or disease before the fall of adam and eve.

I ask because I bought this book that was a humor book about a flying spaghetti monster that said the noodly appendages of this being played with the carbon dating machines. He based that joke on creationist belief, that carbon dating is false.

Respectful question, please dont answer "they are all idiots", I want to give them a chance to share their views

So, respectfully, to creationists, who think evolution is false, do you believe that Satan plays with the carbon dating machines, or that God is testing our faith by changing the outcome of the carbon dating machines?

I ask this with all sincereity, out of genuine curiousity.

Again, to the regulars, no need to call "them stupid" or "them idiots"; let their answers speak for themselves.

We believe that the "science" of carbon dating (and other radiometric dating methods) is so imprecise as to make it worthless.

Radiometric dating is based on the assumption that radioactive matter decays at a constant rate over time. You can't argue that its a proven fact or a law of physics, because it simply is not. It's an assumption based on the further assumption that creationism is false.

I suspect it kind of goes like this (Yes, I know this is a gross generalization):

1-We know that God does not exist, so where did we really come from?
2-Evolution hypothesis is developed
3-Lack of evidence is ignored due to first assumption
4-Radiometric systems match our beliefs so they must be accurate.

We know for a fact (through geologic strata) that the earth has inexplicably reversed polarity suddenly and repeatedly throughout history. If something as basic as magnetic polarity can change dramatically and suddenly, repeatedly through time, how can we assume that the properties of matter and energy don't get altered by environmental factors?

I don't dispute the existence of dinosaurs, but I do dispute that their existance proves anything more than the fact that reptiles used to get really, really big.

So in short, no. We don't suggest that the devil is running around planting bones in the ground. That would be nothing more than superstition and ignorance.

Those people are dummies! LOL Just kidding.

I can see how a machine can be inacurate or even counting the results as something other than what they are. Like a lie detector machine is really just a stress detector machine that people can beat by controlling their physical responces during deception. Likewise, and I have no knowledge of the way they work, purhaps the carbon dateing machines are measureing the amount of a certain sustance in the material being tested, and the results are indicateing something other than true age. Like the lie detector that isn't detecting the truth, but rather the lack of stress exhibited by a damn good liar.
So their claims have some merrit, in my unbiased scientific opinion.

they do not carbon date fossils. they can't, it's impossible. There is no carbon left in a fossilized creature. Carbon dating is used for organisms that have died and been preserved. However, there is huge errors in the process.
They found a mammoth, and carbon dated it's bones to be 60000 years old. then they carbon dated the skin and found it to be 30000 years old. So we can agree that for carbon dating, there is about a 40000 year degree of error (strange, that's about how old many creationsists say the earth is)
To date fossils, they use what is called "the fossil record" Which is a table created by Darwins teacher, Lyell. And he discovered that you can tell how old a fossil is, depending on what kind of dirt you find it in. Likewise, you can tel how old dirt is bu what fossils you find in it.
However, there is so way that Lyell could come up with this record! He's only got two vvariables, the fossils and the dirt! How does he know how old the dirt is in the first place! As far as we know, he came up with the entire fossil record arbitrarily. So now, when a scientist ays "I know how old this fossil is by the dirt that I found it in," and then goes on to say "I know how old this dirt is by the fossils i found in it," that is circular reasoning, and thus, completely void.
So why would Lyell come up with a fossil record that would randomly say "dirt that is 200 feet down is 75 million years old" well, research has shown that lyell was a blantant christian hater. So, if he could come up with something that would disprove christinaity, he would win.

One that God is testing our faith and two Carbon dating is false because a friend of mine found a rock and broke it in two and sent one half in then 10 years later sent another half in and they said the first half was 6 million years old and the other was 10 years old. People have done this many many times and every time the same thing happens

As a Christian who loves science and dabbled a little in archaeology and anthropology in my teen years, I wish believers of Christ who don't believe in evolution would see that it is obvious the two coexist. My belief is that God created evolution and all the other science in the world, because what would this life be if we had nothing to search for at all, whether our conclusion is that God is the answer, or science. I do not believe that the seven days of Genesis were literal 24-hour periods, and I most definitely believe that there are questions we will never know the real answer to until we meet Him.

Actually I think God and evolution are two in the same. People who say science proved evolution, yes but it did not disprove God. If you look at simplistically this is Gods plan for us as a species to continue to be consciously aware. All throughout the history of the universe in its ever on going expansion the universe started out very simplistic and thru history has grown more and more complex. Even take a look at our own earths history, starting with very simple one celled organisms and developing from there, we had dinosaurs they were very small brained creatures, then came mammals with bigger brains, and then apes with even bigger brains able to use parts and functions unknown in other mammals, evolution took its biggest leap in this evolutionary process with us humans, but we are not done. We currently utilize just 10% of our brain compacity but we are growing more and more consciously aware of our surroundings. Of course both good and evil have become aware but its still mind expansion from where our predecessors once were. God is the reason for this, God has a plan, a very direct plan and we should be lucky that we were a part of it, no matter how hard this life can be.

You have a very good question - there have been some scientist recently that have found the the formula used to determine the age of bones etc.. has been wrong. With the formula they used showed the earth being approx. 4 to 6 thousand (not million) years old - but the other scientist were quick to say they were incorrect - so no one knows who is correct.

If your formula had been used for years - would you want to admit it was wrong?

I have heard creationists say something about how the Great Flood messed with all of the fossils, making carbon dating inaccurate. It doesn't matter how much evidence is in favor of evolution, their beliefs are not based on evidence, so they will always invent some convoluted mess to explain it away.

As I have said countless times and you pay no attention, Adam and Eve as a married couple represented the Most Ancient Church.

By the way, your comments yesterday that I am "out to get you" is incredibly paranoid for an agnostic. That is what happens when you have no faith in the Lord.

well...in all honesty, I cannot say that I believe in either one more then the other and I will admit that I am not educated in either belief also. But its my opinion that it could be possible for both to be true...maybe God created us but didn't make us the way we are now...maybe he created us as single cell organisms and let us come about on our own. I don't think Satan is real. And i don't think god interferes with anyone or anything...I think He watches us like an experiment.
