Royal Canin is a low-med quality food! And for those who have vets that recommend it, your just victims of vets who have no nutritional training...and the little they might have was funded by the company for which they promote their food.

Here are the ingredients in Royal Canin:

LARGE BREED ADULT:
-CHICKEN MEAL (okay but you should see "chicken" as well to signal fresh, whole chicken,
-BREWERS RICE (this is a rice fraction. good foods use whole rice only)
-BROWN RICE (good ingredient)
-CHICKEN FAT (okay but should probably be farther down the list. you don't want you do eating fat only)
-CORN GLUTEN MEAL (should NEVER be in pet foods. this is a cheap filler that dogs cannot digest. It's just filling up the bag and costing you money for nothing)
-BEET PULP (same as corn, cheap filler)
-LAMB MEAL (this is okay, chicken is better but this far down the list there probably is next to none present in the food)
-RICE HULLS (this is basically the shell/coating of the rice. no nutritional value)
-FISH OIL (this should specify what type of fish)
-SALT (should NEVER be in pet foods)

VET PRESCRIPTION (POTATOE AND DUCK)
-DEHYDRATED POTATOES (meat should ALWAYS be the first ingredient in a food)
-DUCK BY-PRODUCT MEAL (this is everything BUT meat. feet, feathers, organs, undeveloped eggs/shells, bones, etc. no nutritional value)
-DUCK (this should be the first ingredient)
-POTATO FIBER (has no purpose in the food. there are much better quality ways of getting fiber)
-SALMON OIL (good but this is for dogs with allegries so should not contain anything but duck)

So, Royal Canin is not as bad as some foods and their VET diets are actually worse then their regular diets. There are however, other foods that you could buy that are MUCH BETTER and don't cost as much.

Here are the ingredient of Innova, the healthiest food on the market:

Adult Dog:
Turkey
Chicken
Chicken Meal
Ground Barley
Ground Brown Rice
Potatoes
Natural Flavors
Ground White Rice
Chicken Fat
Herring
Apples
Carrots
Cottage Cheese
Sunflower Oil
Alfalfa Sprouts
Egg
Garlic

This is what a HEALTHY, HIGH QUALITY dog food looks like. All human grade, fresh ingredients.

Use your best judgement when chosing foods. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE ADVICE OF VETS unless you know they are more about prevention and do not promote "vet" diets.

Good luck.

I feed it to my dogs because my vet told me it was one of the best kind they both seem to like it, my husband bought it for the cat though and the cat doesn't like it so much (althought he does like the dog food). I still feed them wet food in addition though. They seem to really like Beneful wet food.

I don't know... I am using the Purina One healthy weight formula and mixing it with Alpo or Mighty Dog... My dogs love it!
