Depending on what you are seeking to do, you may not require such a program. When I started working at the blood center in my community, they actually gave NO preference in hiring to people who had been in such programs because the students often displayed such a huge variety of skill... in some cases the blood center had to work harder with such people because they had bad habits to erase as well as good ones to instill.

It's both difficult and not really too hard. In the blood center's training program they only spent a week showing us how and most of us were poking people even before the end of that. But I don't know of anyone who became REALLY good until after at least three months of doing it full time. So what I'm saying is don't sweat it too much!

As you probably know the new regulatioin that is going to go into law on Jan 1 2007, will require all phlebotomist to attend training accrediated either by NAACLS or CA department of health services. All training program must consist of at least 40 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical rotation where you must sucessfully perofrm 50 venipunctures, 10 skin punctures. After you finish all that you will need to take a certification phlebotomist exam that is accpetable to the state of CA, and upon passing apply for license from Lab Field Service. You can find a list of accrediated program here. http://www.dhs.ca.gov/ps/ls/LFSB/html/phlebotomy.htm

Then go down to approved training school.
Best of luck.
